planning, bicycle implementation and bicycle programs and they are experts on all aspects of the bicycle. and here in san francisco, you know, we are at this point trying to after a hiatus of three years because of court-ordered injunctions trying to implement our bike plan. so we all a collective goal, i believe, to increase the environmental and nick sustainability of the world around us that we participate in and especially in san francisco, but we do have a special responsibility because this place provides us with the opportunity that most other places don't. the geometry and geography of san francisco is up that it is easier for us being in a city of short trips to veil ourselves to other alternatives to the car. so when we want to reclaim the street and the public right-of-way and the public realm for people and basic human needs of access to the humanities that urban environments provide, we have a better shot at than, say, other places where large distances have to be traversed in most american cities to kind of get to the places you want to get. here in san francisco, we have b

we prefer to have parking places for bicycles. of course, there is still -- but that's -- we're only at the beginning. this is called the viking bridge. i'm sure while you have seen the slides in the netherlands, it's very popular there. there are many more investments in our neighboring country to do so, but we are making a start and it's a nice project because it crosses a highway, so it's really very well to use. regional biking service points serve two aims. one is of course, the people who want to bike, to rent their bike, to have it repaired. on the other hand, it's part of a social economic project, so, therefore, it's also an initiative that i find personally very important. these are people who are unemployed but get into a working program in the bicycle service points. i think with this presentation, i hope i have given you a glance of how we in brussels try to enforce the cycling patrol and i don't think i have to tell you that it's of benefit for all of us, for our health, for a better neighborhood and also -- and that

i really excellent instructor on bicycle safety and how to protect bicycles from getting stolen. the bicycle coalition and other resources are great resources we could use to make sure we can bikes safely in our communities and make sure we don't have been stolen as well. besides jerry day coming up in two weeks, we have the san francisco golden gate park. a number of the meadows and i can't wait to see phish, john fogarty, some of the awesome bands, so many different bands will be performing and i should say another planet entertainment promoters have been awesome to work with and they have a model of leading golden gate park even better than when they set up. they are modeled that rec and park is looking at to make the park better than when the events come in. hopefully there will be tremendous bicycle parking and use of alternative transportation and people around the richmond, sunset have any difficulties, there is a hot line they can call to report called -- to report cars parked in driveways. if there is a problem with noise, there is a simple to call a hot line. lastly, i

[applause] >> thank you. what walk san francisco has been working on this campaign to get 15 mile an hour safer speed zones around schools for a long time. we are so excited it is coming to fruition. we are pleased to be here with the mayor, mta, the police department, the school district, and the department of public health as well, which works on safe routes to school. we are here today to establish these speed limits because the thing is -- speed kills. if you are hit by a car going 30 miles an hour, you are six times more likely to be killed than of that car is going just 10 miles an hour less -- 20 miles an hour. establishing these safe speed zones around our schools will make it safer not only for kids to walk to school, but for everybody who walks in our city, and that is everybody. everyone is a pedestrian, and this is really a step forward acalm traffic around all of our schools and neighborhoods. we are very excited to be here. we
