use of bicycle parking over the last 5 years. and that's why i focus the rest of my presentation on bike parking our new proposal. we're excited to be here today. this come a long way since august of last year where this commission approved the planning code and to comprehensively update those requirement. since the hearing the department has reached it out out to many starmdz. we have reached out to the union square and he san francisco real estate department and the san francisco mta. we have received any meetings with the stakeholders. also, we arraigned on best practices in the comparable cities with are for example, vancouver and it's standards are laid out. based on the comment we received and the research we're here to print our final proposal for your recommendation. so the proposal would include requirements based on two classes. class one bicycle parking is secured indoor parking. it can come in forms of lockers or by bicycle rooms. class two bike targets short term use for visitors and can be located indoor or outdoor.

to expand the initial deployment of 350 bicycles. the tfca as local match to leverage nearly $3 million in mtc regional finding. we are funding the biking park project. this project will cover the procurement of 250 biking racks on a san francisco state campus. the other four projects for partial funding include the short-term bike parking project which is including bike racks. since it has two years of funding for racks. we set this project into two halves within this funding cycle. they have a number of other funds available for this coming fiscal year. we also recommend partial funding for department of the environment and department of transportation management programs which we'll hear about the information item. on your agenda abut i will go into detail about them here. first at the emergency right hoed -- home program. it provides a free or low cost ride home in cases of emergency. it's provided to employees of alternative modes to reach places of work. the recommended level will fund one year of the two year project. tfa fund

the first one is to improve the safety and connectivity for people traveling by bicycle. what are we building and where should we build it and we are talking about making our streets safer and we are providing that kind of connectivity and it is an important piece and i want to mention that because it is the macro view and there is really magic in creating a connective network and magic in creating corridors that are comfortable to walk and ride the bus, and to bike. there is some work coming out of new york city that we hope to replicate here, looking at about 9 different street scape projects that the city invested in over the last five years and the economic performance, of those commercial districts as compared to similar commercial districts that were adjacent, to what they were in and the district that they were in and in all cases that two, the places where the city made an investment in the protective bike way and plaza, and street scape and improvements, those streets out rformed, the partners and the district, immediately adjacent and with the two cases where th
