and then you have, of course, what senator mcconnell, the republican leader and vice president biden have been talking about. they've talked at least four times on the phone since i think 3:00 this afternoon, and probably a couple more times since. so the chatter that you're hearing among some inside the senate is that we could be hearing a potential delay simply in the reid vote. not pulling it off the floor, doing any of that, but since there is so much -- so many moving parts in different talks, the question is, do you send the senate home? do you let them get a good night's sleep, and then do you bring them back? you could make an argument that if he's looking to score a few brownie points and harry reid's trying to find a few more republicans to bring over, letting them get a good night's sleep might actually help his cause, not hurt. so we'll see. again, that's just staff chatter. this is not anything other than that. but there's clearly a lot. we do know there's a lot of incremental progress being made in the talks between biden and mcconnell. don't know for sure of any progre

the boehner, obama, biden talks, et cetera, do you get the sense there's a consensus on at least half of what needs to be done? >> there's consensus on the ckets of things that need to be involved but the message we were getting o of the biden talks is while the people at the talks felt they were moving forward there were people outside the talks who were not seeing this thing getting where it needed to go. republicans in particular thought the administration was not giving enough on discretionary cu up front which is where they count the most if you... you've got to start cutting the budget in 2012 and if if you put the cuts off until the out years republicans aren't convinced that's real. so it's not clear to what we believed was even sort of a consensus building in the biden talks was holding together outside of that room. and now we've got a consensus, i think, of the... if we want to go big that means we've got to tackle entitlements, we've got to do taxes and a lot on discretionary cuts. but it's hard to see that anybody has actually given. we've heard pelosi today reaffirm we'r

, of course, led those biden talks that went on for months and sketched out a framework between democrats and republicans. i think it's important to note just in how things could play out or really what this means with the delay in the vote. but delaying this vote in the senate from what would have been 1:00 a.m. sunday morning to 1:00 p.m. sunday by 12 hours, would allow time should there be some discussions, some movement toward some agreement between the white house and senate republicans, it would allow time for the bill to be amended. this is something that's very important and i'm hearing this from democratic and republican sources that it would allow time for that bill to be amended if some sort of framework would be worked out. i think it's also important to take note that one of the big issues that the white house has had with the house republican plan and what's really been seen as an area that needed to be negotiated and really could be the thing that could lead to a break-through on a deal is this idea of if you're going to have a two-part increase in the debt ceiling that wou
