pandora rocks the big board. >>> welcome back. the market may be struggling but at least the earning season has been on a high note. the company earned 10 cents a share on revenue of $6 billion. analysts were expecting a loss of 4 cents. revenue was up 9% to $6 billion. that's impressive when you take into consideration that aluminum prices have fallen more than 20%. the company reaffirmed the demand of an increase by 7% this year. no doubt fear is back into the market, though, with the dow down 213 points today. the tone was set in europe. today we had the worst one-day point decline this year. take a look at the volatility index, the highest number in a month. given the strings of declines, is the rally over or is this the beginning of a buying opportunity? joining me is david zeer, bob pisani, and brian sullivan. gentlemen, good to see you. david, let me kick this off with you. let me ask you about europe and the impact of the united states. has anything changed in terms of the fear coming back into this market that europe's pr

let's take a look at the big board right now, you can see that the dow is down about 100 points right now. investors are weighing the strong corporate earnings against a discipline report on the job market. morgan stanley and bank of america and southwest airlines are among the companies out with better than expected profit reports. but those stellar reports are being overshadowed by news figures that suggests companies are hiring at a slower pace. the labor department says the number of americans applying for unemployment benefits fell less than expected last week. applications for jobless claims have inched higher in recent weeks after months of steady declines. a new cbs news, new york times poll, shows just how heavy the economy is winning on americans. 70 percent of those polled say the economy is in bad shape but that is actually down from the past four years. 39 percent say that they have fallen behind financially and 64 percent are worried about how it will be able to pay their housing costs. 38% say that higher gas prices have been a serious economic hardship. it looks like t

this is a live look at the big board, the market is also getting a lift on good news coming out of europe. you can see on the board they were up 62 points. a new survey shows confidence among german business owners rose for the sixth straight month. not a good sign on the jobs front after two months of decline california's unemployment rate rose back to 11% in march. the rate released today was up just one-tenth of a percentage point crumb the previous month. the uptick in california contrast with the national trend, the nationwide jobless rate fell in march to 8.2%. within the hour we have learned that the secret service is expected to announce that three more employees will lose their jobs. in the wake of a prostitution scandal that has rocked the agency. danielle nottingham reports that we're learning more about one of the agents already forced out. >> the secret service investigation into a scandal involving prostitutes could cost more agents their jobs. >> i don't see how those involved in this should be able to continue in their work. >> cbs news has learned the results of polygraph
