i also want to thank other friends at aei, andrew biggs, kevin hassett, and norman ornstein. i continue to seek your help and guidance. i appreciate it. mark has provided me a lot of that is because his wife is my legislative director. i know he has had a lot of late- night particularly over the last several months. alex mentioned my four months on the so-called super-committee which, in fact, i found it to be not so super most of the time, but it was an incredibly important experience to have. we learned a lot about how we can move forward even though the super-committee was not successful. one positive aspect was that i got an avalanche of good ideas. i said up reform on my website for ohioan is to give ideas. as of monday, we had 17,462 submissions. they ended up coming in from all over the country, but a lot of good common sense ideas. those include changing unemployment benefits to incentivize hiring by giving small businesses a tax incentive, privatizing and reforming fannie mae and freddie mac, a tax credit for seniors who choose to forgo medicare and social security.
