install the bike lanes to complete the connections. and i observed, one small block, the block where i live, rather than to put the bike down the middle, and rather remove the automobile lane, the easier thing was to instead remove parking. and actually part of my block has no curb side parking ever. and i don't think if anyone figured there is a negative pedestrian component. and curb side parking provides a buffer for pedestrians and you can step off the curb without getting hit by automobile. and the dynamics and it's easier to impact pedestrians than to impact an automotive lane. and the curb side parking is not existence and it's a narrow sidewalk, and it's used as a loading dock, and the postal carrier parks in the middle and no one can get by and when groceries are delivered they park there and taxis and construction, the sidewalk is impassable, and is there a regulation not to remove sidewalk and that's the only way to use that street? >> do you want to see that block? >> this is on scott, between oak and feld, and it used to b

completed 18 bike projects. please open to page 18 that shows the projects completed since august 2010. one will be completed by the end of the summer. the bay shore project will allow transportation fund for clean air, which the authority program in 2005. finally, on implementation, the grant includes design and constructor -- construction. sfmta will seek matching prop k funds when the work is complete. the last one i will be doing is the merina close krauss opening. this is more of the top-10 projects. it includes new signals to promote time changes. work will be performed by san francisco in 7 on your side.. -- sfmta. the authority funded the regional bike program. regarding implementation, the design was complete by june 2011 and will completed by december 2011. for all these projects, we are recommending that we will not release the design until it is completed. with that, i will pass this to my colleague who will discuss the three-seat facility project. supervisor campos: great. good morning. >> good morn

continue to build bike lanes.are doing better at building bike lanes, certainly, i think where we fall short in part is we don't educate the drivers within the city. i continualy hear from people who don't understand how bike lanes work. bicyclists are always on the defensive. i wish i could say i felt like it was a safe city for bicyclists. which could say go to work on your bicycle and you will be fine. i don't think i know one bicyclist who has not been hit by a car door. >> a large number of san francisco homes don't own vehicles. i think that's a good thing. people don't need cars in the city. a lot of people don't need cars in the city. >> i think to a certain extent the saying is true, if you build it they will come. the more parking spaces you build the more cars you attract. i would like to see district 8 particularly along the transit corridors and on market and where muni is effective i would like to see less parking. >> i felt like mun muni was getting better. now we have gone the other direction. the

bike lanes have helped. a bit controversial where i live is a bike lane. people do not see as many bikes, but we are seeing more and more common now that the bike lanes are coming in. that makes it safer for pedestrians. we have a bike way on a major street. you do not have as much time to cross, and you cut down one lane for the cars and a pedestrian can then walk more swiftly along the street. that is something that i have been supporting and want to see more of. >> switching gears, let's talk about the issues facing the city as a whole. what are some of the things that you feel could be improved upon? >> we could always go back to muni. part of the difficulty with muni is funding we are losing from the state. i think it is $65 million of year that we have lost. that creates a huge impact. we are also challenged by traffic. the buses are slow because they are contending cars crossing, double parked. we need to figure out how to create better use of our streets. looking at crosswalks, how you can have better timed crosswalks. maybe we could have more cros

biking is a hugely important aspect of this. the bike coalition, the state of california has compelled them to do state street. the complete streets include bike lanes and sidewalks and crosswalks, and so many other things that will improve safety for users. we would like to see this conversation happened. these will provide some benefit to banks, and we are looking to see that move forward. clear sign ainge about reducing its being and reducing crosswalk incursion as well as parking on the sidewalk are huge problems for everybody. we want to make sure those are a top priority of enforcement from the police department. i want to acknowledge them for being here. this is a really great example of how the city can move forward in protecting people that are biking and walking. one of the things that i recently had a realization, the streets of san francisco make up a vast majority of the public space. when people talk about it, they mean that violence. they don't think of it in terms of public safety that implies a safety for people

as you know, lots of families in san francisco are biking -- lots of people in 7 cisco or biking. we see the bicycle separations on market driving back and getting everyone where they want to go. we applaud the ta and mta staff work on looking to upgrade our routes, making sure that they are safe for everybody. we have been excited to work with the city family including the recreation and parks department to move the project forward. i encourage you to look for additional funding so that we can plan a route that allows for sunset district family to drop their kids off at school by bike, to allow everyone who wants to ride their bikes to school to be able to do so. thank you. supervisor mirkarimi: thank you. any other comment? please. >> recreation and parks department. sarah ballard. i just wanted to urge you to release these funds.

we also have throughout the site by sharing -- bike sharing. bike schering and cars sharing are two of the requested elements that you saw in josh's slide. what you are also seeing is that where parkmerced stood between san francisco university and the bart station, you will see how bicycle lanes start to connect from university through the gateway to the census go -- or from san francisco university to the bar area. i'm going to drill down to show you what i'm talking about here is one of the mitigation measures we worked with said you need to make sure that pedestrians and bicyclists can safely cross streets. level of service really only measures automobiles moving through intersections. we have a priority on bicycle and pedestrian safety and transit reliability. wherever we can tweak an intersection that looks like it was getting in trouble to make it more say for bicycles and pedestrians, we did. what you see here is that there used to be a half -- this is the current half, the current situation now, of automobiles that were using the clove

there are regional bike paths, which it helped make real. because we separate the line, we could make it a rail, but, pedestrian corridor that gets directly to daly city. we can look at pedestrian safety projects. we can be technologically smart communicate signals up and down the corridor. we are working on that now. there are other friday as we are open to because we're just now kicking off the tier 5 planning process. you saw this breakdown of tears one through four. here are the presentations of the presentation i am giving. where we have been with this 19th avenue corridor planning process is as i said, and in 2008, we launched the study. we establish something call priority development areas, which means that by designating this area, as we found with some other areas of sand and cisco, we are now eligible for regional money that non-designated areas are not. in 2009 and 2010, we convened our first traffic study working group to make sure that we brought caltrans, bart, mta together to figure out the best way to go forward. we publishe

the first item on my report is an announcement regarding bike to work day. it is that time of the year to dustoff our bicycle helmets, for some of us, and bike to work. it aims to motivate non-bikers to celebrate those who are already riding bicycles. this event will offer prime opportunities to highlight the continuing work done by the mta to elevate bicycling as a green choice in a bike-from the city. the mta is one of the lead sponsors. all of us are invited to join one of the commuter, voice -- convoys. all of them will start at 7:45 a.m., so board members, please let the bird and know by tuesday, may 3, if you plan to join one of these rides. she has all of the locations that you can start your ride from and we look forward with or -- to riding with you on bike to work day. next, the cable car system improvement project. as previously reported, we shut down the powell mason and hide the line from march 28 through april 1. it has been 27 years since the system was less renewed and i am pleased to note that the system hasn't run smoothly. -- has run smoot
