completed 18 bike projects. please open to page 18 that shows the projects completed since august 2010. one will be completed by the end of the summer. the bay shore project will allow transportation fund for clean air, which the authority program in 2005. finally, on implementation, the grant includes design and constructor -- construction. sfmta will seek matching prop k funds when the work is complete. the last one i will be doing is the merina close krauss opening. this is more of the top-10 projects. it includes new signals to promote time changes. work will be performed by san francisco in 7 on your side.. -- sfmta. the authority funded the regional bike program. regarding implementation, the design was complete by june 2011 and will completed by december 2011. for all these projects, we are recommending that we will not release the design until it is completed. with that, i will pass this to my colleague who will discuss the three-seat facility project. supervisor campos: great. good morning. >> good morn

continue to build bike lanes.are doing better at building bike lanes, certainly, i think where we fall short in part is we don't educate the drivers within the city. i continualy hear from people who don't understand how bike lanes work. bicyclists are always on the defensive. i wish i could say i felt like it was a safe city for bicyclists. which could say go to work on your bicycle and you will be fine. i don't think i know one bicyclist who has not been hit by a car door. >> a large number of san francisco homes don't own vehicles. i think that's a good thing. people don't need cars in the city. a lot of people don't need cars in the city. >> i think to a certain extent the saying is true, if you build it they will come. the more parking spaces you build the more cars you attract. i would like to see district 8 particularly along the transit corridors and on market and where muni is effective i would like to see less parking. >> i felt like mun muni was getting better. now we have gone the other direction. the

biking is a hugely important aspect of this. the bike coalition, the state of california has compelled them to do state street. the complete streets include bike lanes and sidewalks and crosswalks, and so many other things that will improve safety for users. we would like to see this conversation happened. these will provide some benefit to banks, and we are looking to see that move forward. clear sign ainge about reducing its being and reducing crosswalk incursion as well as parking on the sidewalk are huge problems for everybody. we want to make sure those are a top priority of enforcement from the police department. i want to acknowledge them for being here. this is a really great example of how the city can move forward in protecting people that are biking and walking. one of the things that i recently had a realization, the streets of san francisco make up a vast majority of the public space. when people talk about it, they mean that violence. they don't think of it in terms of public safety that implies a safety for people

as you know, lots of families in san francisco are biking -- lots of people in 7 cisco or biking. we see the bicycle separations on market driving back and getting everyone where they want to go. we applaud the ta and mta staff work on looking to upgrade our routes, making sure that they are safe for everybody. we have been excited to work with the city family including the recreation and parks department to move the project forward. i encourage you to look for additional funding so that we can plan a route that allows for sunset district family to drop their kids off at school by bike, to allow everyone who wants to ride their bikes to school to be able to do so. thank you. supervisor mirkarimi: thank you. any other comment? please. >> recreation and parks department. sarah ballard. i just wanted to urge you to release these funds.

we also have throughout the site by sharing -- bike sharing. bike schering and cars sharing are two of the requested elements that you saw in josh's slide. what you are also seeing is that where parkmerced stood between san francisco university and the bart station, you will see how bicycle lanes start to connect from university through the gateway to the census go -- or from san francisco university to the bar area. i'm going to drill down to show you what i'm talking about here is one of the mitigation measures we worked with said you need to make sure that pedestrians and bicyclists can safely cross streets. level of service really only measures automobiles moving through intersections. we have a priority on bicycle and pedestrian safety and transit reliability. wherever we can tweak an intersection that looks like it was getting in trouble to make it more say for bicycles and pedestrians, we did. what you see here is that there used to be a half -- this is the current half, the current situation now, of automobiles that were using the clove

over 500 bike racks. there is another 15 bike network projects on the books already to be completed before the end of the fiscal year, so this is a significant project, still playing catch-up to the couple of years we had to spend without doing much on this issue. there is more detail, but given the time, you can see that and ask questions later. the last thing i have on my report is a warm welcome to our new office manager, who is sitting to the right of our clerk. she has, before joining us -- she just joined us last week. she was a bookkeeper and business operations manager for a small consulting firm, and she has experience as a mediator. she has a b.a. in transportation studies from washington, d.c., and an m.b.a. from san francisco state, and i'm sure this is her own contribution to the report. she rides her bike every day for transportation and for fun, and weather permitting, she tries to write 100 miles each week. she has participated in the first california climate right 340 miles from eureka in
