they destroyed dozens of all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes today. darcy spencer is live at police headquarters to tell us why these vehicles were on t pile. darcy? >> reporter: d.c. police have been making a big push over the last couple of weeks to get these illegal atvs and other bikes off the streets. this is just the latest piece of that strategy. let's go ahead and show you the video that was released a little bit earlier this afternoon by d.c. police. it shows a huge claw picking up an atv. it then puts it into a compactor and then it's smashed. police say they destroyed 62 atvs and other off-road bikes at a facility in prince george's county today. these are bikes that were seized on the street or were confiscated in criminal investigations. they were unregistered or their owner did not come and claim them. police previously released photos of dozens of men who were caught on video riding on the streets and sidewalks in the district, which is illegal. at the time, the chief said this won't be tolerated. >> this behavior terrorizes our kids, o
