bike lanes. i have to go around at least one car per block stopped in the bike lane, which means that i have to leave the lane that is for me and enter the car traffic lane. there, i'm vulnerable to even more uber drivers who are paying more attention to their phones than the road. even when i'm in the bike lane, i'm susceptible to cars as uber drivers pull over. i have had more close calls than any other street in san francisco. every day after i bike on valencia, i arrive to my destination shaken, scared and angry. this is an entirely preventable problem. clearly enforcement of these double parking violations isn't happening and something needs to be done. protected bike lanes have proven themselves to keep our streets safe for everyone. valencia street has been a safe and visionary corridor for people instead of a series of crashes waiting to happen. the time for doing nothing has passed. people deserve to be safe. i urge the board of superisors to support funding for protected bike lanes on t

and how to bike safely. the program was funded in the fall semester by a state grant to the department of public health and the work will continue next year as well. but the program will be funded in the spring through prop k. next request is from the smfta to fund their portion of the bike to work day 2018. this is organized by the san francisco bicycle coalition. this funds work that is leading up to and on the day of for all of the festivities that go along with that day. and it has traditionally we have seen increased bike cycling before and after bike to work day. and the last request is from the department of public works. this is for the construction phase of the stand-alone curb ramp improvements either for improving ramps that are not currently at the ada guidelines or to construct ramps where ramps currently don't exist. and folks can request a curb ramp by conducting 311. the work will be done in the spring of 2019. this is an annual funding request that we see from sf public works. with that, i c

but my few experiences biking down there as left me deciding not to bike down valencia as a beginner biker anymore. in fact, i feel safer on some of our corridors in the south of market now because we do have parking protected bike lanes on seventh and 8th and division as well as now folsom street. so, i just want to thank all the members of the public for coming out today. i think this is a corridor that is often viewed as one that should be the most biker friendly. so, i really look forward to us being able to continue those extensions into the neighborhood and also want to make sure, listening to the members of what the public said, it did take a fatality for us to move forward on protected bike lanes on seventh street and on folsom as well. we certainly don't want that to be the impetus for any near term improvements going to the ground. you know how quickly mta can act when that happens and how the near term improvements happened on folsom street was almost shocking to me after the fatality we had. within a month we were painting a green stripe down folsom. i encourage the city

barriers to biking and the biggest way to reduce that barrier is to give a bike away. so we actually are able to reclaim and to recover bikes from sfpd and from uni that are left behind for a long time and we rehab them over with the help of volunteers and community bike shops and we partner with different organizations so that the photo right here is one of our volunteers working with the youth that lives at northridge cooperative homes in the bayview and this was from earlier this year. which we did bike build and gave away about 20 bikes away to folks that live at north wij ridge. this is predominantly at low ridge and in the outer mission and it's been a great program to give away hundreds of bikes every year. and so really the question is, why i'm here, and this gets back to the final question that i'll ask, how we can be better partners. so when we talk about biking and when we talk about accessibility, here's a coup

i'm co-chair of the bike founders. represent 150 donors who have financially invested in amenity in mclaren park, the bike park. whose biggest concern is around trails and connectivity to the park. so i'm here to speak in support of the vision plan. i think rec and park folks have done a great job working with us, creating the bike park that was just opened on october 21st, with much success from the community, family, children from the neighborhoods, people from all over. we want to make sure that as this plan moves forward, we're involved in the details of the trail's development, to ensure that people can safely and have fun. get to mclaren bike park and move throughout the bike park, that includes planning for hertz play ground as well as through sunnydale. we view this vision document as a malleable document that through meetings and community input we'll be able to effect the wild and winding nature of the trails so they are not wide and sanitized. we need those types of trails to move folks through the park, esp
