this month, in fact, bill cosby sued eight of his accusers for defamation. each out to representatives for comment from mr. cosby. right now, we want to go to adam reese, still outside the courthouse where it went down. what can you tell us? >> good afternoon. he arrived right on time at 2:30, walked the gauntlet of cameras into this very small courthouse in montgomery county. only 32 chairs in the room. as he entered the room, he seemed dazed and confused, not sure where he should go. the woman with him, said mr. cosby, come a little to the right, come a little to the left. he seemed very fragile according to one observer. he sat down at his seat. judge mchugh read the charnges and said mr. cosby, you cannot have any contact with the accuser. he appeared to mumble something, it wasn't clear whether he was challenging that or didn't understand it, but she repeated herself. ten minutes later, he walked out of the courtroom on his way to the police department where he had his photograph taken and his fingerprints taken. here's the district attorney. >> our team

can we still love that bill cosby despite what we know now? i'm being honest i was a superfan of the "cosby show" i have seen every episode three times over and i was uneasy watching that. i was. it is hard sometimes to separate the man from the character. that's what we are seeing so much of right thousand. bill cosby's achievements in television cannot be taken away. we have to say that. the "cosby show" revived television sitcoms in the 1980s. it was a trail blazing program. for five seasons in a row it was just that good. two of those episodes, the one we are showing right here and the gordon gartrail episodes were two of the best episodes of television that have ever been done. but we see a much different bill cosby now. and we see people separating themselves from him. in a rapid fire motion. the house of cards that has happened with him has been awesome to watch and i don't say awesome in a great way but in a wow way to watch this happen. >> we didn't have a dvr or tivo. we had vhs recorders. but we would be in the quad or having beers.

the second thing, have you been contacted by bill cosby at all?well, i would never comment on whether or not someone's contacted me. i would never do that. but look look. again, the same thing happened in the michael jackson case. we said they wanted a criminal conviction to pave the way for a big civil settlement. this woman sued for money and apparently got money and took off, from what i understand. that's going to be a very important issue. because financial motive and financial incentive now goes to bias of a witness. and she may have gone to the authorities so she could get a conviction and get a civil judgment more easily. you know, if you're convicted in a criminal courtroom beyond a reasonable doubt, you simply get the certified copy of the conviction. you walk it over to civil court, and liability is established. the only question is how much. i think the defense will argue that she wanted criminal charges so she could get a bunch of money in a civil case. >> tom mesereau, noted defense, i think you've given us a view of how he'll defend

cosby. >> rosemary conners of wcau is outside bill cosby's property in pennsylvania and also former assistant u.s. attorney laura coates joins us from boston. rosemary, i want to start with you. with cosby out on $1 million bail, where do things stand right now, especially with him and his lawyers ahead of this january 14th hearing? >> reporter: as you said, that preliminary hearing is two weeks from today on january 14th. prosecutors will make their case before a judge. it's going to be up to the judge to decide whether the evidence is sufficient enough to move this case forward to trial. meantime, cosby is out on bail. he posted 10% of that $1 million bail yesterday. while he's out, cosby cannot leave the united states. he was forced to surrender his passport yesterday to the district attorney's office. also, he can't have any contact with andrea constand during the course of these proceedings. yesterday i was inside that district courtroom just outside there were dozens of members of the media, not to mention a crowd of neighbors who had gathered there. a very similar scene nearby at the p

she has the latest. >> reporter: christine, alison, bill cosby was not late to the arraignment yesterdaye small courthouse in montgomery county, pennsylvania. when defendant cosby entered the courtroom, he appeared he could not see well. his attorney had his arm and help him step by step get to the defense counsel and sat him down in his seat. the magistrate judge took the stand a short time later. really apprised mr. cosby of the criminal charges against him. alleged aggravated and indecent assault. explaining the theory of the prosecution. she said bail was set at $1 million. told him he would have to pay 10%. cosby did not have any emotion. he was intently looking. she was talking about the conditions of bail. saying he could not have any contact with the accuser, complainant. at one point he said with who. she said with the complainant. she said do you understand what i'm telling you. he said yes. he gave up his passport. his attorney had it. gave it to the prosecutor as is one of the conditions of bail. the judge ended by saying, mr. cosby, good luck. bill cosby said matter of factl
