the police commissioner william bratton and also the mayor of new york bill de blasio. now bill de blasio and the nypd there have been tensions that have been growing over some of the comments he's made about officers in new york. there has been ongoing tensions rising since his comments after the decision not to indict the police officer involved in the apparent choke hold death of eric garner. last weekend at ramos's funeral several officers actually turned their backs on de blasio as he was speaking at the funeral. people took pictures of that. the pictures were very powerful and they were circulated among media and it became something that dominated the conversation about that funeral. and because of that the police commissioner william bratton has issued a memo asking that officers attending the funeral of luh tomorrow not do that again. not turn their backs on the mayor at the funeral. he said this was not about the officers. he said it was not disrespect detected at detective ramos but all officers were painted by it. it stole the have a lorvalor and attention and

but the tensions between officers in the police force and mayor bill de blasio became very public when officers turned their back as the mayor spoke during that funeral. police commissioner william bratton wants no such display at today's wake. he said in a memo to police officer, a hero's funeral is about grieving, not grievance. msnbc's adam reese is outside the funeral home in brooklyn. adam, you're out there, you get a sense of what's going on in the street with some of these officers. will they adhere to the commissioner's memo? >> reporter: ayman, i can tell you relations between the rank-and-file and the mayor continue to be strained and efforts to bring them together haven't really worked out. a meeting between the union and the mayor this week just ended up in more finger-pointing. be interesting to see if the officers heed the commissioner's call not to turn their backs on the mayor when he gives his eulogy tomorrow. the wake here begins in about an hour. it will last till 9:00 tonight. the funeral tomorrow, 11:00. we expect to see officers from all over the country coming he
