new york mayor bill deblasio was out here surveying the damage of this disaster leaving many people homeless and others fearing the worst. >> the rubble from yesterday's explosion and raging fire in the east village is still smolder, and at least two people are still missing. >> right now we are just worried and want to get him home. >> 23-year-old nicholas figueroa's family believe he was having lunch when the blast here tore through. >> all of a sudden i hear a huge boom and i look up and the building just went straight across -- >> sparking flames that ripped through the apartment building above and spread to several others before they crumbled. residents climbed down fire escapes to safety and others wheeled away on stretchers, at least 25 people hurt and four of them critically. >> i heard people screaming and it was crazy. >> reporter: utility crews visited the building an hour before to check on crews fixing gas lines but there is no official explanation today the ongoing search for answers and hope. >> every hospital we call four or five times we just want to see my brother home. >>
