we're going to begin our coverage this afternoon with meteorologist bill evans. he is tracking all of that fog and rain that could slow things down today. bill. >> it's almost like the worst you could possibly have. you got you got rain. the only worse could be like snow and rain mixed and ice and that sort of thing. umbrellas are out here on the upper west side. the rain is starting to develop and continuing to push up from the southwest to the north here and the temperature here at noontime is 56 degrees. we are going to be looking at this rain developing and continuing through the afternoon and starting to get, you know, heavier as we go along. 56 in cambria heights is our temperature now. these temperatures way warm, 20 degrees warmer than normal for this time of the year. look at white plains airport, zero visibility. 8/10 laguardia, 2-mile visibility jfk, a mile at newark, 2 miles at teterboro. this is kind of coming and going this visibility. in effect for this afternoon until 6:00 here, morris county, sussex, hunterdon, monmouth, ocean. as you see that fog

meteorologist bill evans is there outside our studios. hey bill. >> hey here's what's going on this morning. we've got a morning where we start out with mild temperatures, even for a jacket and a coat might be a little warm, particularly around the five boroughs. it's a warm morning, starting out with temperatures about 20 degrees warmer than normal. here's our camera on the roof looking down toward midtown plant. the lights are on at wollman rink. to be a very warm day with the temperatures starting out at 51 should be at 34. we're starting out around 38 poughkeepsie, 46 on long island. 45 degrees down the jersey shore. very mild, very warm for this time of the year for these seasonal averages should be about 33 degrees. with this warm air surging we get this fog, and there's dense fog on long island, parts of coastal connecticut around new haven and down the jersey shore. this will continue until about 8:00. then you see that cloud cover there east. that'll burn off today. we've got a calm wind that allows that to develop. the water temp

we just got an update from police commissioner bill evans moments ago. can you tell me what you had here. >> about 9:50, we got a call here today. you know, a suspicious package. an officer from homeland security which is the building right here was on his patrol and he in the add suitcase left unattended by the back of one of their vehicle. he went up, looked at the video, a white male seen leaving that package. he hurried across atlantic avenue to hyde street. due to the suspicious nature of we looked at it, brought our bomb techs down. they x-rayed it, seen some components inside, wires and a power source. at that time, they took a step back. we got our robot in there again to look at it. and then we neutralized it by detonating it. turns out there were some wires and power source in there but nothing explosive. >> does that lead you to believe this was in some way a package that could have created danger to the public? >> no, i don't think so. once we did the controlled detonation, there were some wires. what bothers us is the behavior, why this indi
