bill karins is here to tell us if there's any relief in sight. bill, good morning. >> good morning to you, amy. the extremes divide our country in half. southern half of the country has been too hot and too dry. this map just shows us where the worst drought conditions are. the bright red is the exceptional areas, which is s almost all of texas, southern new mexico, and now it is spreading along the southern gulf into areas of south georgia. that's why the fires are getting worse there. now it's time for your summer forecast. the july forecast, just the month of july, drier than normal conditions where the drought is the worst. and we expect wet conditions where the flooding is the worst. so no help, if anything, getting worse through july. actually the summer forecast does call for exceptional conditions with more wet weather in the dakotas. normal wet weather down in the deep south. i think the only thing that's really going to be ending this drought is if we actually get hurricanes or tropical storms to head that way. you don't want to wish tha

here now with the latest on more extreme weather, bill karins. hey, bill. >> what's summer going to bring? this is incredible stuff. mostly in rural areas in arizona, but it is forcing a lot of evacuations, and this time of year, the heat really starts to build in arizona. it makes things difficult for firefighters. at the same time the missouri river, the northern half of our country. we had a lot of snow that melted. there's flooding ongoing. this is mostly due to a lot of dam that is had to release water, and this is caused the missouri river to have numerous problems. there were levee braechz in iowa and there are people sand bagging in 90 degree heat. ridiculous, and talk about temperatures. this heat ridge in the middle of the country was the big story this weekend. yesterday it was 105 in houston, texas. the hottest temperature ever recorded in houston in the month of june. that's a big record that was set there. 96 in kansas city today. 98 in dallas. all this heat is going to slide to the east coast, so be ready on wednesday and thursday.
