bill karins tracking the weather. what does it look like now? >> old man winter crashed the party this weekend. without a doubt. we were off to a warm period of weather throughout the country. now all the cold air up in canada and alaska has rushed to the south behind the storm. most of the snow was over with. light stuff and flurries minneapolis, green bay, light snow left for you. but the big story is the cold air that's behind this. if you're shoveling or snowplowing, it's miserable. the storm is heading east. instead of going due east or redeveloping off the coast, it's heading to quebec. it's dragging warm air up the eastern seaboard. it's only extreme northern portions of vermont, new hampshire, and all of the state of maine that we have to deal with ice and snow during the morning. i think maine especially around augusta, i-95, you'll have to deal with the possibility of a lot of sleet, too, mixed in. rain further to the south. we had strong thunderstorms along this front yesterday through the midwest. now we just got showers in pittsburg

first to bill karins in new york. he has a check on the forecast. bill?can say good-bye to those late summer/early fall like temperatures. the cold front is heading through neng neck and soon areas of the mid-atlantic. temperatures have fallen a little bit. watching chicago, much colder right now this hour than yesterday at this time at 27. so the midwest has returned to normal. the east coast, blustery weather will arrive during the aft afternoon. on that cold front we've had a little bit of light rain that continues just south of d.c. heading for richmond and also as we go north of charlotte, north carolina. other areas of wet weather this morning, if you're joining us this morning in san francisco, some moderate rain heading in now. and if you're driving interstate 80 from sacramento to tahoe to reno all the way back through nevada, that's a rainy drive. probably one of the rainiest highways in the country. and our friends in hawaii, even they're dealing with some rain and thunderstorms from maui all the way through. so today's forecast for your wednes

." >>> first here's bill karins with a check on the winter storm that's hitting the midwest. d morning. yesterday was bad enough in the midwest with the blizzard conditions. now we're dealing with a wind storm and heavy rain through the big cities of the northeast and soon new england. it's a rough morning for the commute. winds just gusted to 43 at jfk airport. you can imagine at the airports especially from new york city, philadelphia and northwards will have the most significant delays and cancellations on this friday. thankfully it's just rain. we're not really dealing with igs ice or snow in new england. it's a different story in the great lakes. it's a winter wonderland anywhere in the state of michigan. it snowed hard last night, northern indiana and much of the state of ohio right now is seeing snow. careful driving, interstate 70 going across the lower portions of the great lakes and the ohio valley. and the winds are gusting, too. we probably have a little bit of blowing and drifting snow in indiana, michigan and ohio. and again, those winds this morning around new y

here's bill karins with a check on the forecast. >> thanks, joe.aybe breaking news coming out of southern portions of alabama. this winter storm has a severe element to it. over the last half hour, we're getting reports that a tornado has struck the western side of mobile, alabama. and moved to the north through chickasaw. this tornado could possibly still be on the ground. the tornado sirens have been going off. a lot of people are being woken up by sirens early in the morning in southern alabama. the areas that are next for this possible tornado that has already possibly done damage. reports by the fire department there in mobile is satsuma and creola. if you know anyone that lives in those areas, try and call them and alert them now because the storm is heading their way. as far as the tornado threat, it also includes areas of mississippi, alabama and the panhandle of florida. we'll watch this till about noon today for the possibility of any of these tornadoes. now, as far as the blizzard goes, roads are almost impassable through much of iowa an

here is bill karins with a check on the forecast. bill. >> we'll talk about the first blizzard the winter moving across the country. big travel issues over the next two days from denver up through areas around chicago. let me show you what the map looks like. this is our winter storm warnings and advisories. the little arrows on here show you blizzard warnings in effect. the storm is now just south of denver. by tomorrow afternoon it's going to be near chicago. it's this area to the north of the storm where the worst of the weather will be with the wind and also the snow. now, the timing of the storm, no problems in morning. late today driving home through nebraska, very difficult. you did not want to travel tonight into tomorrow through much of iowa and southern wisconsin. that's this area in here that will be dealing with blizzard conditions as we go throughout the day tonight into tomorrow morning. chicago gets on the backside of this storm. you will get some snow, too. how much snow are we talking out of this? we're looking at the
