nbc meteorologist bill karins joins us now with the latest. bill, what is it looking like? >> well the problem is in texas this morning. they move all the way to the east coast through thanksgiving. the worst, dallas-ft. worth metroplex area, at 32. the sleet and freezing rain continues through the morning commute. the temperature will go above freezing later today but not in time to prevent a treacherous morning commute there. and now watch it expand up to the north. this blue line, by the way, is the freezing line. now, it's starting to take us up to areas of eastern oklahoma. on the edge of that sleet and rain on the south. okay in louisiana. where does it go after this? as we go into the afternoon hours, the heavy rain will move off the gulf. the storm will begin to develop in the gulf of mexico. it will end the ice storm in texas. we'll watch it expand in arkansas, possibly in tennessee. heavy travel today, i-10, i-20 will be mostly rain. again, the worst of it today, the dallas-ft. worth area, just treacherous conditions. >> thanks, bill. and that system has already t

nbc's meteorologist bill karins joins us right now. how does it look? >> wind also kick up, waves will be high, especially at the coastal areas of washington. definitely oregon state. there's a little bit of drizzle as you're seeing in the portland area. little cool, little damp out there. it's chilly in much of the inner mountain west. las vegas down to 44 degrees. the next storm just underneath that weather channel logo in the left side of your screen is the next storm that will be coming onshore tomorrow. not so much today. it will be cloudy and murky in northern california, northward. when the storm comes onshore, heavier rains will move in. not a lot today. once the storm and cold front moves in, portland could s sesee .75 inch. a little an 1.50 for belingham. it's not a significant snow event. looks like a little northern cascades get a couple of inches. the passes will be just fine with this storm. wednesday forecast, we are looking, as i mentioned,drizzle portland area. fire danger, little high. 83. that's your national ery warm. >> it's dry, wa

and now for a look at the national weather, bill karins is here. >> winter driving skills. time to get the refresher course. >> this is one of those times i'm glad i don't drive. i take train. no problems. >> the areas of concern this morning are going to be in kentucky and west virginia. that's where it's been snowing overnight. louisville had some snow and 34 degrees. could be a little stick on bridges and overpasses. as advertised the cold air is spreading east and south, down to 28 in st. louis. that's the temperature not the wind chill. so it's a hard freeze in those areas and the wind chill is worse. take a look at kansas city, wind chill of 6. in the little rock where the front hasn't reached, wind chill is 7. 40 degree temperature drop behind this front. the cold front is now slicing through new york city, philadelphia and d.c. this is as warm as it's going to get. get much colder as the day goes on. here's the snow. you can see it on the map. much of central pennsylvania has gotten a coating of snow. pittsburgh area. a lot of it is not sticking on the paved surface

let's get right to nbc meteorologist bill karins for the very latest. bill, good morning. >> good morning. it's hard to say what's going to be the worst of this. it could be the damaging winds that are possible in southern new england, it could be snow back in areas from pittsburgh to cleveland to buffalo, or maybe just the heavy, torrential rain and delays at the airports later tonight and tomorrow. so, let's get to who has the worst of it now. we have an ice storm from asheville, north carolina, to roanoke. cold air is trapped here right in the foothills of the mountains, and that's who's seeing the worst of it as far as driving conditions. be careful on interstate 81 through virginia this morning. as the day goes on, the storm moves up the coast, heavy rain develops up the eastern seaboard throughout the day. snow will be getting worse in areas from ohio to west virginia, northwards. worst of the airports today will be atlanta, charlotte, raleigh, late today washington, d.c., and pittsburgh. then as we get into your wednesday travel trouble, the storm
