but first, here's bill karins with a check on the dangerously cold temperatures across the country. t eight fatalities and i'm sure that number is going to grow. we're at the peak in all areas. it will slowly improve from here. a lot of our watches and warnings will be dropped as we go throughout the morning. this snow squall started in pennsylvania and made it all the way through new york city. it's almost like a thunderstorm in the summer. it's like 15 minutes of really intense snow and then it's gone. let's get into the numbers. 121 million people still under warpings and advisories. right now the lowest windchill values in the northeast. negative 29. vermont is negative 22. that's still nothing compared to the negative 45 in international falls and chicago at negative 41. as we go throughout the day today, chicago drops to negative 6 instead of negative 41. and boston and new york are above freezing. then tomorrow morning it's still cold but not as windy so a little bit better and that january and into february transition, you're going to like it. we'll warm up considerably. the

first we'll check in with bill karins for a look at the winter storm affecting much of the country. bill? >> this is going to be the biggest storm, biggest impact storm we've seen not just for california but for new england by the time we get to the weekend. torrential rains in california. we have blizzard conditions in the mountains with 90 mile-per-hour wind. there are flash flood watches in and around los angeles, the blizzard warnings high surf. here's the know forecast. three to six inches over areas of the midwest, ohio valley, much of north of interstate 70. when you talk about high impact snows, syracuse, scranton, albany. when we get on i-95, we're going to get front end snow in the beginning. then we're going to go over to an ice storm. there is great concern we could get significant snow, maybe 3 to 6 inches and and then a quarter to a and we'll see significant out ages here in southern new england. that's a possibility. a lot of patriots fans would be upset about having no power and missing the game. we give you the updates as we go throughout the rest of the week here on

but first, let's go straight to bill karins with a check on the forecast. bill? >> good morning. we are watching two storms off the coast of california, both going to go coast to coast. we're one into california yesterday and a bigger one that will impact the entire country pi time we get into saturday or sunday. they were already doing some ef evacuations in some of those areas outside of los angeles over the next two to three days. on thursday the storm moves inland. the blue on this map shows you where that snow is going to be. looks like another snowstorm in areas of nebraska and iowa. by the time we get to saturday, we track it into the northern portions of the ohio valley, southern great lakes. looks like saturday night into new england. looks like a mostly rain event from boston to hartford, to new york, d.c. and philadelphia. the primary area for snow will be north of interstate 70 in the ohio valley and once you get to central new england. we'll pinpoint the forecast as we go to the end of the week. and new york city, looks like this one will be mostly rain. you're watch

but first, bill karins has a check of the forecast. >> good morning to you. d.c. all the way back to st. louis but first off the cold air is in place. it was a big change for areas of the mid-atlantic. a few spots in the low 20s and that will stay with us for at least the next three or four days. a great travel day. no problems whatsoever. rain showers, higher elevations will be getting a little bit of snow in the rockies. snow breaks out friday afternoon, areas around st. louis, central missouri, a little bit of ice storm possible in the ozarks, but look at this bull's eye of snow. this is up to 9 inches of snow. enough to plow and play in and cause trouble on the roads. kansas city you've got that football game on saturday. looks like the snow will be early in the day. maybe only about two inches so really not much of an impact on the game. the snow moves through the mid-atlantic and through west virginia. washington, d.c. we have you close to 2 to 4 inches of snow right now. richmond on the edge of 4 to 6. for your travel plans on saturday, i-70 is going t
