. >>> for a couple of weeks now our chief meteorologist bill martin has been talking about incremental changes. but bill, the change you talked about last night we could really feel it today. >> this is more than incremental. the fog grew very quickly, it went well inland. we're looking outside right now and you can see that tonight's forecast overnight lows are going to be mainly in the 50s. as we take a look at the fog out there, you can see there's a doze of it already moving in. that's how w17 is west at 17 at the gate or that's at san francisco airport. so you have a big wind like this. there's a strong push tonight of low clouds. tomorrow we're going to see more rapid burn off. high pressure has intensified and as that high intensifies we're going to see temperatures come back into the -- upper 70s and low 80s. drizzle to the tune of .001 .01 of an inch. it was a heavy mist. especially around half-moon bay. it happened again tonight. i think .02 of an inch drizzle is significant for that type of event. look forward to it again tonight. the next few days it flat lines. we talked a

our chief meteorologist bill martin is tracking it. >> the most fascinating thing here is day two and three when you get up to the new york area. in the carolinas saturday. this is pacific standard time. so our time 11:00 a.m. it's going to hit that area and move right across through kitty hawk. this next move here as you go north. new york doesn't get hurricanes, but if this thing staying intake intact, that is an extremely -- that would be a big deal. it remains to be seen. it's still a ways out. the forecast for the fog is going to be pretty similar to what we saw this morning. right now we have fog in the avenues of san francisco all the way out to south on market out toward the ballpark. fog out toward krissy park as well. today's highs were nice. they were a lot like yesterday. tomorrow's highs will be warmer. as we go into this bay area weekend which is just around the corner it's going to be warmer than it has been. we're going to see temperatures in the inland bay valleys by sunday. usually into the mid-90s. as you march through the bay area microclimates throughout the coast

chief meteorologist bill martin is tracking irene in the weather center and bill is it getting stronger tonight. >>irene was forecasted to build up into a category 4. but it has backed up from that. the east coast has not been hit in four years. there's something else that is unusual. and i'll show you that on the map. a category 3 as it stands. florida is fine, parts of georgia certainly fine. as you head into the carolinas things start to change around. you can see the path and out here in the outer banks of carolinas on saturday. it moves on shore as a category 2. here is the unusual thing. this thing wants to be the -- the models want to keep it as a category 1 as it moves toward the carolinas. that doesn't happen, you don't get hurricanes in the city of new york. it has to be a rare rare occurrence. this category 1 will be very weak if that does occur. across atlantic city, new jersey, things could change. a very unusual hurricane taking an unusual path. tonight at 10:00 i'll come back and we'll certainly update the latest models. these models are updating constantly. tonight fog c

let's talk to our chief meteorologist bill martin, bill you have been watching it all afternoon. what did you see? >> well, number one the u.s. has not seen a hurricane make landfall in over several years, so this is the closer, it is near bahamas on thursday, friday, a category 3, it stays offshore. that is really good news obviously. that left side of the hurricane is -- as i mentioned last night, not the powerful damaging side. it is the right side of the hurricane when it comes on shore. but as you look here as you head into sunday, monday, looks like it wants to stay off the eastern seaboard, until it gets up into the new england states. we'll watch it closely, the many story here is the travel delays as they move up the east coast over the next few days. and airports will have a heck of a time with some of the cloud cover and the rain band. even though the hurricane doesn't come on shore, you will have heavy rain bands. for us, the fog is coming to shore, for us, temperatures are cooler than they were yesterday at this time. temperatures tomorrow, a couple of degrees cooler

let's check in with chief meteorologist bill martin. >> foggy and drizzle on the lens too. drizzle back in the forecast. hasn't really gone out. drizzle along the coast tonight and tomorrow morning. and twin peeks you can see the marine layer towards market street. the fog was here 15 minutes ago. you see the progression as it moves towards the park and the west span of the bay bridge, so fog, low cloud, cool air back in your forecast. here we go. fog long the coast. there is the golden gate bridge. you feel the low cloud and fog tonight. spotty drizzle and that will slow you down on highway 1. the forecast for this week really is similar to what we had last week, cooler tomorrow as we get a stronger push of marine air. for the weekend, it is mild. no big, big changes. the upshot, the fire danger is down. cooler tomorrow. today we saw upper 80s, low 90s inland. concord, just 78 degrees. it will get up to 80 degrees, 82 towards antioch. that's the high end. i expect that number towards antioch, 93. usually. not tomorrow. tomorrow low 80s, upper 70s. forecast, heat in the cen

right now we want to go over to chief meteorologist bill martin. is the weather hurting or helping the firefighters tonight? >> we have warm temperatures from the 80s to mid-90s. but as the spokesperson said the terrain is the biggest challenge. if you've been in that area, you can see the steep drop offs there. that is the biggest obstacle for fire crews. there's about a 30% chance of a shower. that's good news but the bad news a thunderstorms. with that that could trigger new flames. but right now we do have at least partly cloudy skies in the sierra right around yosemite. back here in the bay area. we have the fog right near the immediate coastline showed up nicely here as you can point out from point rays, san francisco, and pacifica. clearing skies and temperatures have warmed up nicely. forecast the story for tonight is this. we do have patchy fog targeting the coast in the bay. tomorrow, patchy clouds, next week we do bring in a cooling trend especially to a tuesday and into wednesday. here we go with the overnight lows, area fog. most areas
