bill martin will tell us about wild weather we have to be worried about. >> that's right. this cold air is what can happen and what might happen tomorrow as more cold air fills in. this is current image, doppler imagery, you see that spinner there, i know it is merced, that is a rotating cloud. a funnel cloud when it touches down is considered a tornado. we will be following this all night and more unstable weather tonight and tomorrow. a wild weather period. this is not unusual. this time of year in the central valley you get cold air and this activity. so it is striking. like this morning's hail and tonight as the cold air gets closer, the thunderstorms will drift south towards the north bay. at 10:00 we will show you reds and yellows. i don't think we will see rotation. but by tomorrow morning, in the bay area, we could see some severe weather. we will be watching it. we will be watching it for you tomorrow. tomorrow is the earmark of a wild weather day. the forecast tomorrow, you see the evening forecast, rain showers 10:00, 11:00 in the north bay. you see these cells.

. >> and ktvu's chief meteorologist bill martin is tracking the weather. is this unusual? >> not really. it is spectacular to see a funnel cloud like that but this time of year when we have a chance of thunderstorms, the dynamics come together for the potential of what we saw today. here is the imagery. you can see there is the yellows and reds, that is about the time where the tornado was when the damage was reported. looking at the damage t looks like a tornado. this was taken from stockton, stockton to the north of your map. this is looking back at that area to the south, at this point it is clearly a funnel cloud. it moved off northeast at 20 miles an hour. i am going to back this up. i want you to see the progression of the cell. you see the dark reds? this is the system, right? north of myers there. let me roll it back further. there you have. that is about the time of the funnel cloud. as it moves off, it loses energy. listen, these things love the central valley because the ground is flat. when the wind comes in it comes in with a flow it is smooth, it gets sucked

. >>> and chief meteorologist bill martin is back after the break. tracking a big change in our weather right before the weekend. >>> tonight we have pictures of a huge 20-foot great white shark that was caught in mexico. ktvu's sal castaneda tells us why researchers think it's the same shark spotted off the northern california coast several years ago. >>> news of the capture of the big shark spread quickly among the research community. the female shark shown here on you tube weighed some 4,000 pounds and was about 20 feet long. it was accidently caught by a mexican fisherman last week using a small boat called the panga in the sea of cortez. at about the same time a woman who says she was the wife of a fisherman reached out to researchers sean vandel. >> i received the photo and notification and then boom. then comes the announcement, news story south and moving north about this big shark these guys caught. >> reporter: and the big shark could be one he tagged near ano nuevo island. >> well if it's the tag that she's showing me, that's actually my t

we want to bring in our chief meteorologist bill martin now, how unusual or is it unusual to see a grayff the coast of california now. >> the reason we're going to these pictures, it's not in our area. these are incredible pictures. what we're seeing here, live camera coming from a chopper in los angeles. we're seeing a gray whale entangled in about 50 to 150 feet of fishing line or net. currently what we have they're trying to attach some buoys that have a zodiac on it. they're trying to keep up so they can remove the fishing line. what the whales are doing. we see them off our coast a lot. these whales are moving north to the alaska where they feed. and they come and breed in the warm waters. the round trip migration is about 1,000 miles. the pictures are stunning. the whales migrated fairly close to shore. we've seen them off ocean beach, i've seen them right in the shallows in 20, 30 feet of water of the pacifica area. and so, a fishing net is something they might encounter and in fact, that's what we have here or a fishing line. 150feet of it. these people working furiously. they g
