you have nature right here. >> reporter: bill martin ktvu channel 2 news. >>> hurricane irene is gaining strength as it cuts a path toward the florida coast. but the brunt of the storm is not expected to make landfall. it crossed through puerto rico earlier today. flooding streets and causing power out annals. no deaths or major injuries were reported. it's the first hurricane of the atlantic storm season and is expected to reach wind speeds of 115 miles an hour when it hits florida on thursday. however, the worst of the storm is expected to remain about 150 miles away from the florida coast. >>> good afternoon to you. sunny skies slowly gaining the upper hand over the bay we are still socked in with low clouds and fog out there this morning. take a look at what is happening. we have nice clearing over the north bay east as well as south. it's right here san francisco and the east bay oakland, hayward, alameda still dealing with the gray sky. 63 degrees san francisco. 62 in oakland. upper 60th san ho -- upper 60s san jose. where we are seeing the sunshine we are seeing mild temperatures

department tells ktvu they were fortunate to get this fire under control before the winds really picked up. >>> speaking of the winds let's check in with chief meteorologist bill martin and see what's going on with the weather out there. >> not above the average, warmer than it has been. we have some fog bufferins burning off the coast. there's some breaking out there. fog is going to come back again tonight. and it will definitely make it to the inland bay valleys. right now in concord it's 87 degrees out in concord. that's just short of where it was earlier today by about 2 degrees. so got about 89 degrees. we're looking for forecast highs tomorrow to be slightly cooler than what we experienced today. and as that occurs as we look at the cooling temperatures we're looking for numbers to begin to stay on the cool side right through the bay area weekend. so it's not going to be a real warm run of temperatures around here. what you can do is go outside and take a look at a live camera see what we have out there. you can see out in the avenues near san francisco. you see the clear sky, those clear skies are going to give way to fog here very soon. it'll be just like la
