bill melugin is live along the border in texas for us. bill? >> good evening to you. you pick any day of the week. you come down here to la jolla, you will find activity. it is remarkable how consistent it is out here, and that was certainly the case today. take a look at this video we shot here a short time ago. we were setting up to go live. we had a group of runners come zipping by right behind us in the brush trying to make sure they weren't apprehended by border patrol. about five to ten of them. we put our drone up in the air to start trying to track them. once they zipped behind us, they worked their way through the brush, took off running into an open field where they know border control has cameras and sensors. they took off through the field work were hoping not to get caught -- they took off through the field, were hoping not to get caught, made it on the tree line on the other side. these are runners that don't want to turn themselves in unlike the families. border patrol came out here and caught some of the migrants. there appeared to be a couple of women

bill melugin is live at the border with the latest. bill. >> reporter: good afternoon to you.s a very active night out here i la jolla with masses of migrants crossing over. this was right where we are standing last night here in la lajolla, a group of migrants crossed illegally here, this was mostly those family units coming across. masses of families. once again, we saw this all summer long. there was a little bit of a lull. now it's starting up again. most of the families have different color wristbands on when they crossed which means they were pushed across by the cartels a at a certain location, at a certain time. as part of this group, there was one unaccompanied minor, boy, 5-year-old boy from guatemala who made the journey completely alone. it's remarkable when you think about it but it is not uncommon. border agents told us this little boy's parents are here in the united states but this sort of thing happens all the time. just in fiscal year 2021, there were 147,000 unaccompanied minors who made this journey alone, crossing here into the united states. that's up fiv

correspondent bill melugin reports from la joya, texas. >> a human smuggler driving a stolen truck's leads trooper on a pursuit before bailing out. the trooper chases down migrants as they spill out of the vehicle trying to escape. 13 illegal immigrants were apprehended including the driver. several were hiding in the bed of the truck and when men appeared to have been concealed inside of a large toolbox. in la joya, texas, wednesday morning, as usual, groups of migrants walked on the road to give themselves up after they crossed illegally. more than 100 turn themselves into border patrol, a mixture of families, unaccompanied children, and teenagers. border patrol here in the rio grande valley center says there were more than 45,000 migraine encounters in the center in october. that is a 157% increase over the same time last year. earlier today we learned from the cdc that for the very first time, 100,000 americans died of drug overdoses in a single year. that is partly fueled by a sentinel ods. that is a drug which continues to spill the rest of them borders. this highly sophisticat
