. >> i'm joined right now by bill richardson, former u.s.mbassador to the united nations and joe cirincione, president of the ploughshares fund. governor richardson, thank you for joining us. i wonder if the president's first goal was to screw up the deal before it's even brokered? >> it's going to be a tough sell. there are three problems. one, will the negotiators achieve the unquestioned big questions in the agreement. in other words, the pace of sanctions release, the inspections regime. secondly, will khamenei, the iranian leader embrace the deal? second, how can iran destroy this many centrifuges in a short period of time? there's a lot of questions on here but if congress moves before june 30th, they can squelch this deal. i think congress needs to give the negotiators between now and june 30th, the europeans and the u.s. a chance to conclude the best possible deal. >> the only thing that could actually stop the president is a veto approved by congress and that would require a lot of democrats. >> i think democrats are going to be wit

later this hour i'll speak with bill richardson on the u.s.m hayden will join me. let's get to what's happening out there as we have breaking news at the hour. the death toll is rising after a massive earthquake shook nepal's capital of kathmandu. more than a thousand are feard dead and numerous search efforts under way. the quake in a densely popular area of the kathmandu vool valley. homes, temples all being leveleded. aftershocks rock the area as the death toll is expected to climb. nbc's kelly cobiella is monitoring from london. what's the latest. >> as you say, alex the death toll is climbing. reports of as many as a thousand, possibly more now dead. we have no count on the number of injured. rescues go on throughout the night. people digging through rubble trying to reach people who have been buried. one spot in particular, a tower, historic tower, collapsed when the earthquake hit. there were believed to be anywhere from 50 to 200 people buried underneath that rubble. there you see pictures of the tower and rescue efforts ongoing there

ambassador to the united nations, bill richardson.you very much for joining us, sir. let me just start with the simple question of where do things go from here? they had the handshake. they had the meeting. there are moves to restore diplomatic relations. can you see a point in the near future where completely normalized relations exist, and that includes the free flow of travel between the countries? >> yes, i do steve. i think this is one of the foreign policy achievements of president obama, after 50 years, this needed to happen. first, latin american antagonism the 30 or so countries will be reduced because we took this step. it was an albatross in our relationship with all of latin america. the next steps are going to be, one, the designating cuba off the terrorism list. that's been a big antagonism on cuba. they want that off. >> should they be off that list? >> yeah they should be off, steve. you know i've worked on this issue before. they actually cooperate with us on homeland security issues on drug control issues. what will

he had no visual reaction, for instance, when bill richardson testified. richardson, of course, the father of 8-year-old martin, the youngest person killed by the bomb that tsarnaev himself placed at the scene on doyleston street. on the stand richardson spoke with extreme stoic. spoke knowing that martin would not leave. young body torn apart and bleeding on the street. he talked about the difficult decision to take his daughter, who was also severely injured, losing a leg and rushing to the hospital hoping to save her life. and tsarnaev showed no noticeable reaction when little martin's autopsy photos were shown. very graphic pictures. i was actually in the courtroom the day that crystal marie campbell's autopsy photos were shown to the jurors. the jurors were in tears when they are looking at these very graphic photos but we couldn't see any reaction from dzhokhar tsarnaev. 17 of these 30 charges carry the possibility of the death penalty. and, greta something interesting to note here as we move forward into the aggravating factor stage of this, the nex
