i remember when bill richardson flew to opec. we have this report that they might cut production.o you think they do that and does it matter if they do, do that. i think that this point right now it does matter. there probably can have to cut production. and if they don'tç i think what that u.s. oil producer has is a real problem. right now, this is not good for that u.s. shell producers. they are really tight with the balance sheets right now. it's kind of a break that could actually lower u.s. production out breaks. there are summary bottlenecks and infrastructure problems getting the oil where it needs to be. as i easing up at all. it is going to probably late next year. but in the short term it isn't. that's another issue. are they going to continue to spend money to expand capacity. at the prices are low when you're not making any money. it does have ramifications. there is always some kind of ramification. some of them are good. but sometimes they're not so good. if the oil majors in some of the shell producers and even the smaller players are pulling back on spendingç it

joining us now is former ambassador to the u.n., bill richardson.eing here. >> thank you, maria. maria: your reaction to what iran is coming back with, that it's going to resist these moves. are you expecting retaliation? what's the impact of all of this? >> well, i think what we want is iran not to get out of the nuclear deal that they have with other countries. i mean, we got out of it. i would have kept can it. but i think this is iran's political reaction. their economy is in trouble anyway. these are very tough sanctions, oil, banking, shipping, but it's going to take about a year for them to really bite the iranian economy. the worry i have is that france, germany, britain, are not joining in the sanctions and that we've exempted eight countries. they're our allies from oil shipments, oi oil sanctions, but what we want the iran government to do is stop their cyber attacks, stop their support terrorism, stop their campaigns around the world to disrupt friendly governments. in syria, they're doing terrible work. in yemen, they're doing the same

from the rest of today's g20 meeting and we will get a trade deal with china joining us now is bill richardsonthanks both for being here. bill i have start with you. its an interesting set-up. we already have the president making some comment saying there's positive signs with china, the trade representative saying he would be surprised if the dinner with xi on saturday wasn't a success and at the same time you got peter navarro at the dinner table so a little bit of a push/pull. how would you game out this meeting? >> well, i would say that it would be a plus if we simply if the chinese stop any additional tariffs, stop the trade war and find a path to negotiation, maybe not have an agreement at the dinner, but a path where we're negotiating a cooling off period because i think the chinese economy, the american economy, they're the leading economies in the world. we need some relief there. i think this trade war has been a mistake, but its happened, but let's find a way to, at least, lower the temperature, to set a negotiating path to redo all of these tariffs and very negative signals that a
