eyewitness news anchor bill ritter is here to explain. >> the newer cars have them, fobs. this is a fob. like an ornament on a key chain. a lawsuit claiming that these can be deadly. here is the gift of the lawsuit filed in federal court in california. the claim is that people leave their cars running and because the fob isn't connected like a key they assume it will shut down when they and the fob leave the car but if you keep it relatively close to the car like a kitchen near the garage it doesn't shut off. there have been 13 carbon monoxide deaths because of this and they claim ten of the largest carmakers, these carmakers have known for years about the potential co poisoning danger. why not have an automatic engine shut off if the fob is farer they are than a few -- farther than a few feet from the car or not in the car a censor. until this is resolved, the best defense is to make sure that you remove the fob from the car and turn off the engine by hitting the button off. it wasn't a worry with a plain old car key like this. >> i have left my car running because i forg
