billy defrank, is being created and it's at the billy defrank lgbtq plus center in san jose that is named after the well known and loved african american drag star, and joining us today to talk about this mural is gabrielle and tola vich, the president of the center. thanks so much for joining us. thank you, and you can see the mural is not yet complete, so come to the belly to prank center, maybe late monday afternoon, and you will see it almost completed by then . and we decided we wanted to launch the idea of the musical because we are celebrating our 40th anniversary gala in october , so we wanted to do something special about billy pranked himself, and it looks so colorful, and in a way we're getting to see the work of allvine progress. so that is a treat for those of those people that those of our viewers who maybe aren't familiar with billy dee frank and your center. can you just give a brief explanation of this? significance of him and this mural to the community. he was i , you know, a lot of people. remember that, um, stunned wall happened in new york in 1969. and so a lot of activist groups happened in the 19 seventies, all around the country, including in santa clara county. and village of frank with the drag queen that helps support all of the different lgbtq groups that were activists and he was very generous with his drug shows. and he helped fund their, uh different events so that when everybody wanted to meet under the same route in 1981, they wanted to name it. asked isabelle after billy frank, which is his strong tag name. and he actually died a year before the center open. he died of a heart attac
