the hurricane hunter that i said was leaving biloxi did make it to the storm, so they did get the update ot100 moving north at 16 miles per hour. that means this storm isn't going to be in the water for hours. we don't want this thing in the water for 35 more hours getting more and more strength to it. that is one of the good pieces. another thing that happened in the 5:00 advisory is the track has been shifted about 20 miles to the west away from cedar key but a little bit closer to st. marks where our brian todd is, and even a very significant blow likely to tallahassee with all those big trees that are there, you get wind gusts 80 mile per hour we're going to get so many wind gusts and lose so many trees. there is the eye and you can see it from the tampa ralder and the key west radar. it has been circular and the storm is breathing and now we expect that next rapid intenseification for the next 18 hours before it makes landfall in appalachia bay. that's the catcher mitt going to catch all this storm surge, significant storm surge. a lot of rainfall as well, and all of a sudden you're

i am here at keasler air force base in biloxi, mississippi.is home to the 53rd whether recon -- also known as the hurricane hunters and we are on the runway right now. or about to get ready to board the big c one third e.j. and take off for the hurricane, it's about a 30 minute flight to get to the hurricane and then, once we arrive at the hurricane, we will spend hours crisscrossing and zigzagging in and out of the eye of the hurricane and, basically what we are doing is they are trying to find the latest readings on wind speed and pressure and temperature, so that those readings are sent back to the national hurricane center in realtime. they get those readings and they can make their final projections on where this hurricane will make landfall and just how strong the storm will be when it does make landfall. in fact, they are calling this flight that i'm about to get on the landfall flight because it is very likely going to be the last flight that the hurricane hunters fly on this storm before it makes landfall. they may actually, we were i

it left biloxi and a prop c130 flew all the way up to the storm but it found the pressure was not asow, and it found the winds were not as high as the satellite estimates. that's good news. it may not even be a cat 4 right now. we'll have another update at 5:00. a lot of times the hurricane center kind of lets it go for the entire next run to see if another plane goes in. but the first tropical storm watch ever in california from this storm. it is going to be a very big storm where it is now or not. the storm does head up toward into much colder water, and that's the only thing going to stop this 130, 150 possible mile per hour hurricane from being a huge impact to southern california. two impacts and we're still going to see winds to 60 going to bring trees down. we're also going to see the potential significant rainfall. right now the storm is in middle 80s, upper 80-degree water. by the time it gets closer to california middle 60s, that will kill it. but will it kill it in time? so much rainfall still to come, and as you said a level 4 of 4 of significant flash flooding possible.

because of a hurricane hunter aircraft, thank you to the men and women on this plane, flew from biloxifound the winds were not that high and pressure was not quite that low. things are not as bad as the satellites made them appear. but good news there, and the storm is going to get into some colder waters, so yes, that weakening that we're expecting is still going to happen. we still have tropical storm watches there for even now los angeles county. here's what's going on -- we just talked about the hurricane that affected lahaina with all of those winds. that's because the wind normally comes in from the east, the trades, and blow these storms into the central pacific. that's not happening this time. huge high pressure over the central plains going to make record high temperatures, going to drag the storm up here, and a low to the west is going to drag it up here. so the storm is going to end up in southern california, unlike most of them that should be just blowing out to sea. this isn't going to happen. now the good news is the water is so cold that this will die off before it actua
