[music playing] >> riders up! >> del mar has got a great history. i mean, one of the reasons we're so successful is really our history. i mean, bing crosby lived up the road at a ranch up there, and he was looking for a place to run his horses, so he convinced the state that they should build a racetrack here at del mar, so he did it. [bell ringing] [crowd cheering] >> we've been raising horses for 40 years or so, and california goes way back in the 1800s with a lot of horse farms. it's got a real heritage here and it employs a lot of people. if somebody just gave you a little baby horse, you might have 20,000 into it by the time it ever got to a race or maybe more than that.
