an important institution in golden state park is the bison which has a history dating back to the turn of the last century when president teddy roosevelt launched an initiative to save the bison from extinction. during the summer myself and other members have been concerned about during our visits to the paddock that this seems to be a considerable disappointment by other park visitors in that the bison are not particularly visible. this is due to the fact that the herd has been reduced from 20 animals to only three rather gare yacht trick -- geriatric animals and they generally repose in the back of the exhibit back in the trees. i brought these concerns to the joint zoo committee last month and was happy to receive assurance from the zoo managers that planning is being done to add animals to the exhibit and to improve the handling of the animals in that exhibit. i took that -- those comments back to my meeting last week and we resolved that we commend the zoo's efforts that we really believe that the bison herd deserves better attention and support from the wreck and park department

these bison are descendants of a 1984 birthday present to them mayon-mayor dianne feinstein frm her husband richard blum. we will have costume bears to meet and greet zoo visitors. there will be a bear themed event and crafts at the zoo. in addition, on july 24, should you get hungry for ice-cream, the ben and jerr's scoop truck will be out there and an ice cream. why they learn how to take fish from the exhibit areas and then they wobble to penguin island to join the rest of the herd. that will happen on saturday july 30. that concludes my report. >> thank you. commissioner lee. >> are there any plans to replenish the heard you have lost? you have lost two out of the five, so you only have 3 left. i recall there was a donor who may have been interested in donating some buffalo to replenish their herd.

it's like bisons going across the mid west. there are so many dogs they are covering the ground cht it's a get together. all the dog walkers know each other. if you go to pine lake day camp now, you will see 50 kids there. the r directors are wonder. >> the pine lake is natural. they take of the area around the lake. they plant natives that are drought tolerant. one that stands the dry summers here. the whole park is under going quite a bit of reconstruction. they will renovate the trails around the lake. and the big project is the capital project for pine lake meadow. they are going to returf the dog run and the meadow by the day camp. we are looking for a very busy fall. by the spring of next year should have major renovations to the mark thal make it an outstanding park. i don't ever refer to it as my park. all the parks belong to all the people. this park belongs just as much to the families in the bay view sdrishth as it does to the gentlemen that lives across the street. i'm happy and proud to be the caretaker for them. i
