david: blake burman, thank you, blake. melissa. melissa: joining me now with the trump campaign's response to the "new york times" report, katrina pierson, trump campaign national spokesperson. obviously you saw the main woman portrayed in the article. her picture was at the top. brought out as their lead piece of evidence come out disavow it today. at the same time, there is a lot of material in there that sort of paints the picture of donald trump as somebody who at very least very focused on women's appearances. how do you sort of how would you describe the rest of the content? >> this is what i would say, melissa. the fact that you have this multibillion-dollar celebrity who had girlfriends over the years isn't breaking news. the fact that he is a marketing genius who ran a beauty pageant, it is shouldn't be uncommon for him to notice a woman's appearance, particularly in those contexts. that is not surprising either. yes, as you had mentioned the chief person "new york times" article pointed out came out and said look, i didn'

blake burman is with me now. so, blake, that sounded like a very intense meeting earlier today. what are you hearing this afternoon? >> well, one thing was made very clear, deirdre, by white house press secretary josh earnest this afternoon, president obama is standing behind ben rhodes 100% here. rhodes is of course one of the president's top national security advisors but he created more suspicions about the iran nuclear deal when he was featured by "the new york times" earlier this month as an aspiring novelist who basically created a story line to sell some fictitious parts of the deal essentially to the american public. that led to oversight committee hearing from this morning which rhodes did not attend after a letter was sent to that committee from white house counsel yesterday. yesterday afternoon, in a separate letter as well, republican senators john corp. anyone -- cornyn, john barrasso, mark kirk called on rhodes to be fired. early today, earnest slapped that down. >> this is publicity stunt senator kirk attempted one week ago today. i think pretty much everybody ign

blake burman live in washington. blake? >> reporter: we're starting to see the next moves, some of them at least for those involved with the whole stop-trump movement as it has come to be known. several groups spent months and millions as you know in the effort that has ultimately failed. we dug up some numbers here that show at least $34 million was spent by a handful of those groups and does not even include the campaign, themselves, or groups who normally campaign against republicans. one of the catalysts was club for growth. that's a conservative group based here in d.c. who donald trump has had a very public spat with. they dropped roughly $10 million against trump in the primary. now, a club for growth spokesman who i spoke with just a little while ago told me they will no longer pursue that fight, but that spokesman also told me they will not help trump out in the general election either because they do not view him, they say, as a pro-growth economic conservative. instead, they say they'll focus entirely on those do

david: blake burman, thank you, melissa? melissa: donald trump confirming to the "wall street journal" he won't be path to the billion-dollar bill to finance a general election campaign saying -- joining me now, michael goodwin, new york post columnist and fox news contributor. i can't believe he would put up his own money, he's too smart for that. do you think he'll have any challenge raising a billion dollars given that he's starting now? >> part of that will come through a super pac. that's an important part. i was looking at the numbers from 2012, president obama and mitt romney spent about 1.2, $1.3 billion in that race. so trump, it's reasonable to assume he's going to need a billion of all sources combined, meaning himself, contributors to his campaign and super pac. melissa: he's trash talked super pacs in the beginning and saying anybody who used them is a puppet of the super pac. is he going to have trouble getting that money? >> i don't think so. there are enough people out there. this is not about donald trump ve
