i'm wolf blitzer. you're in "the situation room." >> this is cnn breaking news. >> the key ukrainian port city of mariupol is facing brutal bombardment right now, being attacked from the sea. officials there estimate more than 90% of the besieged city's infrastructure has now been destroyed from the relentless russian assault. cnn's senior national correspondent has the latest developments as putin's forces step up their attacks. >> reporter: the booms of russian missiles landing near ukraine's second largest city, kharkiv, which has borne so much of the russian onslaught. but few places have felt the wrath of russia like the port city of mariupol. the attack coming not just from the land but the water as well. russian ships in the sea of azov now joining in the bombardment. the deputy mayor estimating 90% of the city's infrastructure is now destroyed. >> the city does not receive any humanitarian needs. food, electricity, water, the bombing, a lot of death, a lot of crying, a lot of awful war crimes.

i'm wolf blitzer reporting today from warsaw, poland, where moments from now president joe biden is set to deliver what the white house is calling a major address on the war in ukraine. looking at live pictures coming in, the presidential motorcade heading over the location right now, the speech coming as we're watching also major developments on the ground in western ukraine. cnn cameras live in lviv as the city was just hit by russian missile strike, one of them triggering clearly a massive explosion at a fuel storage facility. at least five people were reportedly injured in this attack. the strikes less than 60 miles or so from ukraine's border with poland where we are and the president of the united states is getting ready to make this s major speech as well. we have teams in ukraine and poland. john berman has been anchoring our coverage in lviv. tell our viewers who may be just tuning in what has just happened where you are. >> where i am right now, we heard air raid sirens oh about a couple hours ago followed by three blasts, and then the smoke started rising into the sky. it was
