a blizzard watch is in effect the des moines metro. moderate to heavy snow is expected at times and wind speeds will increase as well. winds will be strong from the north-northeast at 15 to 25 mph, gusts to 35 mph. this will create very difficult driving conditions all day on tuesday and for the start of wednesday. a winter storm watch is in effect for those southwest and southeast of des moines until tuesday night. most of monday will remain dry for those caucusing around the state. light snow will begin falling late monday as the bigger system approaches but shouldn't be much of a problem for those driving home during the evening. the bigger problems will move in for the morning commute on tuesday. the majority of snow will fall during the morning on tuesday, tapering off by the late evening. exact snow totals will depend on where the rain/snow line sets up. if it slides north of the dsm metro, snow totals will be cut down significantly. that being said, right now snow totals are still expected to be in the with 6-10" farther toward
