john: what's the point of your blog, overcoming, i assume we all try to overcome? >> yeah, a lot of us seem to be blase about this. we're biased but kids are kids, but some of us go my god, i'm biased. i could be wrong about everything, how can i deal with that. some of us want to know how can we actually do better? john: are we wrong about a lot of things? >> awful lot of things. biased who we want to hire. who we like and think are better for jobs. john: now the picture on top of your blog, if you list this tied to the mass, why? >> we're seductive, we think we're prettier, moral, smarter, ulysses knew he couldn't count on himself not to believe what he said, he had to constrain himself. >> he ties himself to the mass and begs the other crew members. >> please, please, they had wax in the ears and couldn't hear. that's the thing we need to do to overcome bias, it's hard. john: for students, they evaluate teachers in college. you found an interesting bias there? >> it's well known if the class at a nice time, easy class, you give out a's, you get better evaluation

started working on a -- what ended up being an early group-based blog -- we did not call it bloggingack then. and sold that. and then started spyonit which was an alerts platform. amazingly, we sold that on september 12 of 2000. we had a one-year restriction sort of restriction on the stock in the sale. and my birthday is september 10. so i had this weird set of days on 9-10-01, being out to dinner and thinking, like, ok, in two days, the stock lockup expires. and it is going to be -- we are going to have this financial situation i have never been in before, which will be great for us. and of course, the next morning was 9/11. and by the time 9/12 rolled around the stock markets were closed and that did not happen. it made a profound impact on me because i went into my birthday thinking, well that is it, everything is great and my life is, you know, changed forever and i don't have to work ever again. and then the next day, everybody's world changed. and i remember just thinking that whole next week, everything you think is possibly true can be changed in an instant. and, you know, i
