of education policies, procedures, budgets, and the agenda. i still do not completely understand all of it. i have the privilege of reading and learning from a wide cross- section of people, parents, board members, community advocates, legislators. i am grateful for this opportunity and encourage others to undertake what has been for me an amazing journey. it is with this perspective that i present the report for 2010- 2011. the role of the parent advisory council is to present parent voices and perspectives to inform policy decisions. this it summarizes our work for this school year and issues we will take up again in the fall. the last page includes a table showing our specific goals and achievements over the year. i know this was emailed earlier. there are paper copies as well. we want to achieve student achievement, equitable access, and accountability. we support these parties and have focused to engage parents in several of these initiatives. we are concerned that we are still hearing from a lot of parents that are not seeing social justice at high standards or effective instruction to close the achievement gap in practice. our work is aligned with the goals of the balanced scorec

i have been a member for approximately five years now previously appointed by the board of education are provider, they need representation on this board. there are over 600 homes providing care for the 6000 children citywide. they're left out of planning and policy decisions that affect their businesses and the children they care for. as a member, i like to help ensure that child care providers participate fully on planning bodies in public policy related to child care. i'd like to ensure that the child care providers have the resources they need, including support programs and access to subsidized child care programs. there is a strong advisory role at all of these areas. i have served as a mentor to many providers as they prepare for assistance and being in the year when they needed to be heard. i have served as a neighborhood network leader in the district and in the past, high serve on the family child care association of san francisco's advisory board. i like to continue representing child care providers and i hope he will appoint me. >> i was curious if you felt in district 11

i actually ran for the board of education in san francisco and got to serve a term on our school board. what really surprised me was how much i enjoyed it. i loved it. i love meeting with families, meeting with youth, meeting with teachers, visiting schools, and getting a deeper understanding of what it means to make our system work better. the one thing i really enjoyed was i got to run within a district instead of citywide, was that i really got to know voters and residents. i actually enjoy campaigning more because i had time to knock on doors and the voters individually. i'd love it. i actually really enjoyed being out on the field. so i spent a lot of time doing it because i got to really get a deeper understanding of what people care about and what people's concerns are and also what people loved about the district and the city. i was talking with the mayor yesterday. he was very interested in seeing how the good work with our office -- how he could work with our office. i would love to see how we could support small businesses because they are the heart at san francisco. they pr
