i did that and actually ran for the board of education here in san francisco. i got a term on the school board working for families in our public school system and actually worked for the lawyers community and i came to the board of supervisors. >> why did you choose to live in san francisco? supervisor kim: you know, i do not know if i have a good answer for that. i just wanted to try it out. >> tell me what motivated your interest in politics. supervisor kim: that is a tough question to answer. i never had any intention to get involved in the electoral process. >> really? supervisor kim: i was always politically active. i was always working on statewide initiatives, and i worked on several campaigns. i worked as an organizer. i did not really have an interest in an electoral process, because -- i just have this perception the process was 30, and when i went to the ballot to vote, it looked like i was taking the better of two evils. i did not have a strong interest. working as an organizer, you get to know issues surrounding budget for schools or housing, and i

of education policies, procedures, budgets, and the agenda. i still do not completely understand all of it. i have the privilege of reading and learning from a wide cross- section of people, parents, board members, community advocates, legislators. i am grateful for this opportunity and encourage others to undertake what has been for me an amazing journey. it is with this perspective that i present the report for 2010- 2011. the role of the parent advisory council is to present parent voices and perspectives to inform policy decisions. this it summarizes our work for this school year and issues we will take up again in the fall. the last page includes a table showing our specific goals and achievements over the year. i know this was emailed earlier. there are paper copies as well. we want to achieve student achievement, equitable access, and accountability. we support these parties and have focused to engage parents in several of these initiatives. we are concerned that we are still hearing from a lot of parents that are not seeing social justice at high standards or effective instruction to close the achievement gap in practice. our work is aligned with the goals of the balanced scorec

i have been a member for approximately five years now previously appointed by the board of education are provider, they need representation on this board. there are over 600 homes providing care for the 6000 children citywide. they're left out of planning and policy decisions that affect their businesses and the children they care for. as a member, i like to help ensure that child care providers participate fully on planning bodies in public policy related to child care. i'd like to ensure that the child care providers have the resources they need, including support programs and access to subsidized child care programs. there is a strong advisory role at all of these areas. i have served as a mentor to many providers as they prepare for assistance and being in the year when they needed to be heard. i have served as a neighborhood network leader in the district and in the past, high serve on the family child care association of san francisco's advisory board. i like to continue representing child care providers and i hope he will appoint me. >> i was curious if you felt in district 11

you have access to your mayor, to supervisor cohen, president of the board of education, and a lot ofpeople. these other people that make the decisions. we'll let you know what we have done so there is not just one opportunity but multiple opportunities. >> [inaudible] >> the media process, the national one is going to be done a little bit quicker than that. there'll be an indication of the next couple of months about what we have learned a we can do with the information to happen to come back earlier than annually to continue the dialogue. >> how does the process of the other services other than housing hopefully here in san francisco? >> affects all properties. if you have an apartment or a home and you have been discriminated against, we can take action. in housing decisions, where you live as an impact on some the other things. what your access is the hospitals, healthy foods, playgrounds, etc. pierhead as a platform for advancement and empowerment, it is really important. is is an indirect way of dealing with education issues. it is also just as important. >> and beyond the indiv

i actually ran for the board of education in san francisco and got to serve a term on our school board. what really surprised me was how much i enjoyed it. i loved it. i love meeting with families, meeting with youth, meeting with teachers, visiting schools, and getting a deeper understanding of what it means to make our system work better. the one thing i really enjoyed was i got to run within a district instead of citywide, was that i really got to know voters and residents. i actually enjoy campaigning more because i had time to knock on doors and the voters individually. i'd love it. i actually really enjoyed being out on the field. so i spent a lot of time doing it because i got to really get a deeper understanding of what people care about and what people's concerns are and also what people loved about the district and the city. i was talking with the mayor yesterday. he was very interested in seeing how the good work with our office -- how he could work with our office. i would love to see how we could support small businesses because they are the heart at san francisco. they pr

educational purposes and as a condition for the general fund, the governing board are counting on education as appropriate and shall take testimony from the public to discuss, approve, or disapprove of funding, and make explicit the purpose for which funds will be used, and whereas the governing board for san francisco county education, the regular schedule a public hearing on june 14, 2011, and whereas the attached schedules reflect the proposed use of your three -- of your three programs -- tier 3 programs. therefore they approve the programs for fiscal year 2011 until 2012 was permitted by section 326 05, and therefore be it resolved the board of education's those approved the proposed funding to attach the categorical funding and has made explicit the categories for which the funds will be used. on page 8 it basically was the initial categorical programs -- it basically with the initial categorical programs. we keep these in the same sequence as the original programs that were restricted, and we have shown the projected revenue is $58 million. we are also showing the expenditure budget is $42 million being used in a similar method of a worth -- that they were being used prior to
