bob michel room. go to peoria, which i was fortunate to attend this weekend and go to the funeral, drive across the bob michel bridge. the funeral service was on the cam poufs bradley university, the student union is named after bob michel. bob loved baseball and as an avid player myself, we had shared fond memories. he pitched, i pitched, i think he won more games than i did. one flaw in bob michel's character was being a cub fan and as a cardinal fan i was able to say that. but when all the ceremonies were going on with the cubs winning the world series, i finally found a reason to be happy about the cubs' success. bob was alive to experience it. in fact, stories over the weekend said he stayed up to see the final play in the final -- and the final out. there's a great picture of him on his porch with the -- flying the w. bob was laid to rest in peoria on sat i remember one of the statements made i remember one of the statements, peoria is good enough for me and he was laid out to rest. my thoughts go out to his family his so vickie, who after wife's death became a loyal companion. i appreciate this time to reflect. and i'll end with -- you get to meet some great people in this chamber. and one of those that i'

bob redell south of sonoma. bob, you watched one of those rescues go down right in front of you. >> reporter: good morning to you, kris there. were three drivers who had to be rescued overnight and a fourth driver this morning. it should be noted we're here in shellville in sonoma county. there are road closed signs barring entry here at highway 121 and route 12 because of the flooding caused by the sonoma creek. that driver drove past those be barricades and inexplicably tried to drive through this. it is hard to comprehend what was going through his mind as he attempted to drive his mercedes sedan through two to 3 feet of water rushing down highway 121. two other vehicles nearby indicated it wouldn't end well. this driver tried to back up once he realized his predicament, but his car stalled. fortunately the fire department was right next door. >> stay in your car for now. for right now. >> reporter: this man's biggest concern, letting work know he was going to be late. >> we can't do that right now. >> give us a few minutes. >> reporter: as water flooded his car, fire fighters backed in a rig to help with the rescue. >> are you ready? all right. i'm going to have you go out. get in the water and right behind your car. you have to get in, man. just get in the water. it's not that deep right there. just get in the water right there. all right. okay now start walking towards the firemen, all right? >> reporter: as you can see, the driver was able to walk back towards the rig. he actually stopped to question the fire fighters. hey, why don't i just start my car back up. they had to explain to him that it stalled. he got back to the rig. we were going to try to talk to him, but at the last minute he decided to have the fire department take him to the local hospital. his feet were cold. he was concerned about possible hypothermia. three other cars stalled in the waters here around 1:00 this morning. you can see a couple of them over there and that building to the left, that's the fire department. the fire department was awakened by people honking their horns this morning. they believe that this water came in so quickly that it actually trapped those drivers this morning, that there was minimum amount of water on the road and it was possibly like a flash flood. so, they were able to get five people out of three different cars. everyone okay. reporting live here in sonoma county, bob redell, nbc bay area news. >> very glad to hear everyone made it through that all right. bob, thank you very much for showing us what happened this morning. similar scenes playing out all over the place. in downtown san anselmo things reached a critical point. flood sirens started blaring at 7:00 this earn montgomery warning people there to leave. with more wet weather coming the town remains on high alert. nbc bay area pete suratos joins us. you saw one playing out as well. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam. a wet and windy morning across marin county. we're in downtown san anselmo as you mention. this nearby creek we always talk about reaching that critical stage. it did hit 13 1/2 feet, and that's when those sirens went off and that meant businesses had to leave this area. in fact, i spoke to a number of them. they say there wasn't any major flooding in this area but difficult speak to one resident who doesn't live too far from here. here's what he had to say about what took pl
