"today in the bay's" bob redell live at the scene in bethel island. bob. >> good morning to you, marcus. you can see the damage, the destruction behind me, the double-wide mobile home. this is santiago island village mobile home park. the fire started before 1:00 this morning. there's a family of five inside this home when it started. take a look at the video. just got done speaking with the battalion chief east contra costa county fire. he tells me a female, a woman, adult woman, who was in the back bedroom sadly did not get out. she perished in the fire. the four other people who were inside did get out. they are physically okay and the red cross is helping them. i asked the battalion chief, he said do you know what caused this, he said, no, we don't have a determination yet. one of the major challenge fighting a fire like this, there's no water service on bethel island. they had to bring out their water. they brought three fire extinguishers. you can see this home is destroyed. right now we see those headlamps on the firefighters going through look

bob redell is live for us in antioch. what has the fire department been able to tell you? >> reporter: marcus, contra costa county fire protection district said the man dieing in that garage behind me didn't belong there, he was not a residents of this address. the homeowner, we spoke to him. he believes that the person who died in there was homeless, was seeking shelter from this morning's very cold weather. the fire broke out around 6:00 a.m. here at west 9th street and k street in antioch. they found him inside and did cpr and declared dead here at the scene. the fire department has not confirmed he was a homeless person but the homeowner is sure of it based on the past experiences here in the neighborhood. >> what happened is the homeless are always jumping over the back fence. you know? in this area. trying to get into -- over hang and stay cool. he got in the side garage door and went inside and somehow made a fire to kind of warm himself up or whatever. fire broke out, got out of control. >> we don't know who he is yet but may be trying to keep himself warm. these cold nights. really sad to think th
