we liked bob dole.l respected but really not a player at tht point. >> what does that matter. >> i don't think what bob dole has to say will sway anyone either way. i don't think it will sway the bushes either way. they are standing on principal and good for them thus far and given the way we saw there was no love loss between jeb bush and donald trump. i think the bushes and mitt romneys and folks like that look at donald trump being unfit and dangerous to the presidency. i don't see how they come around. but marco rubio came around. so -- >> that's where i was going to go next. bob dole tells us trump should pick former house speaker newt gingrich for his running mate. i'm curious, who you think should be trump's running mate choice if not gingrich? >> i think newt is a good option. there are a lot of good ones out there. and he will get somebody that complements his style. one thing i want people to realize when you look at mr. trump he doesn't necessarily respect politicians that have been in there

today a lot of them, bob dole came in, dick cheney came in. many congressmen came in. >> as for paul ryan we should point out the speaker has invited donald trump up to the capitol to meet with the house republican caucus. that is going to take place on thuray. i talked to a couple of trump campaign sources. one told me he believes paul ryan and donald trump will be like old friends by the end of next week after this meeting takes place. another source says this is probably a strategy on the part of paul ryan that he has to go and show some of the members of his caucus that he hears them and understands that many of them do not want to support donald trump and are not ready to support donald trump. that is perhaps part of the strategic process for paul ryan to get to the point where he can support the presumptive gop nominee. you heard donald trump say he picked up support of dick cheney and bob dole. bob dole says he will be at that convention later on this summer. >> old friends by the end of next week. i wouldn't put the cart before the hor

in 1996, bob dole seems to have impersonated himself as a spokesman several years ago. this is really outlandish, right? there is a risk for the press but for everybody that the bar for trump has been so progressively lowered over the course of this campaign, that he has survived so many of these stories, that we end up ruling out the prospect that there really are voters out there who see something like this and think that's unusual. i was talking over this last week to a number of republicans who are rank and file republicans, registered voters, not people who are elected officials or professional political consultants, about how they feel about trump now that he's the nominee and the interesting thing was not just the level of discomfort, but that each one of them cited a different reason for why they felt so uncomfortable with him. each were called a different moment in his primary campaign, comments about torture or comments about prisoners of war, comments about women that there are so many different avenues to choose from in order to describe and rationalize thei
