i have admired for years the work the bob iger did and lead this organization to become a pioneer andt in traditional media. we expect to be able to work with innovations to bring the best of disney, whole category of franchises from star wars to marvel, espn, abc -- think all the great things disney has into short form video. the "starnow has wars" franchise, perhaps the most valuable franchise the planet has ever seen. content creators at maker previously wanted to do a spoof on "star wars" and put it on youtube, you get a takedown order, right, from lucas. do your people have the freedom to experiment with disney characters? >> we intend to embrace the disney franchises throughout network. our creators say this is a fine line to walk, right? >> this is happening in many cases what is generated i our own creators -- by our own creators [indiscernible] >> are there more rules and restrictions around what your content creators can do? when i think about all the short form video my kids have watched, lego videos on youtube, a lot of it accidentally ends up pretty inappropriate. now tha

we asked bob iger about his successor, if he's close to naming someone to take the top spot at disneyhe smiled and cordially walked away. we're waiting for some sort of announcement from disney on that front about who will take the top spot there. this morning, arriving at breakfast, we saw barry diller, asked about aereo, he said basically, we fought the good fight. that's all we can do but not much more to say than that. it crushing blow for diller, an investor in area that got dealt that ruling from the supreme court. basically puts an end to its operation last month. we'll hope to get a little more color from him on that. jeff bezos attending breakfast. no comment on the firephone or whether he would look to buy another newspaper. last year he sewed the seeds that led to a $250 million deal there. more on deals a couple blocks later in the show. there will be a focus apart from tech, apart from media on gee i geopolitics. secretary of state john kerry, special guest interviewed by charlie rose. that should be interesting about a trip to china he's recently ending and, of course, w

among them are bob iger and warren buffett. no major deals have come out of it but consolidation, especially the pay-tv industry is expected to be a major focal point. germany wasn't the only big winner in yesterday's world cup semi final -- turns out twitter was a big winner. there were more than 35 million tweets sent during germany's blowout against brazil. twitter says there are 580,000 tweets per minute as germany was scoring five goals in an 18 minute span. now to our lead story of the day -- it's the latest your in amazon's bitter battle. amazon is making a direct appeal to authors, proposing letting them keep 100% of the revenues from digital sales until the pricing dispute is resolved. the idea is the lack of revenue would force both parties to get a deal done. but hachette is refusing the deal, saying they have cut off the deal with amazon. amazon responded with its own statement saying we call baloney. hachette is part of a $10 billion conglomerate. they are making clear they want their authors caught in the middle o

disneyou are a bob iger world rupert murdoch, you have one key issue.r one, to protect your existing ecosystem, which is extraordinarily profitable. that is the broadcast and cable business. at the same time, you need to place your bets for the digital business that will develop over the next two to five years because that is where consumer behavior is going and advertising dollars are going. you need to make sure you have the best out of the both sides. >> these guys with gray hair, white hair, do they need to figure this out? when you look at disney pay the kind of dollars they did for maker studios some are saying, was this the cheapest deal or most expensive? do they actually know what they're doing or just playing defense? >> i think it is a little bit of both. we saw probably the worst example of media company getting the tech technology one could argue is news corp. with myspace. they had to write down that investment almost the day they do the deal. there are lots of deals out there. may maker studios got him a their example -- may maker studios
