bob johnson, president and ceo of the american college of financial services and co-author of "invest with the fed." thanks for joining us. start with the impact this decision will have on people's loans. could afferates on mortgages, student debt. not a big jump here. thinking about making a big purchase, what does this mean? should you buy now? >> there isn't an immediate effect. you don't need to immediately make that purchase. i would make the point, thinking of buying a home, mortgage rates are going to increase in the future months and years. the fed clearly signaled today that they raised rates today but that they're planning on a series of rate hikes in the future. planning on buying a home, i would advise them to take out a fixed rate mortgage. if you currently have a variable rate mortgage you may want to think about converting to a fixed rate mortgage. >> bob, talk about the impact on credit card rates. is now the time for consumers to be shopping around for a credit card getting a good dealing good term. >> absolutely. because today, immediately on the heels of the fed's r
