bob michael is the global head of fixed engine at jpmorgan asset management and he joins us now to talk about that. nice to have you, bob. >> good evening, nice to be on. >> so what is the bond market telling you as the pertains to the economy and stock? >> it's telling us a couple of things. i think first of all it's raising some red flags. if we look at the high yield market in particular, yields have been rising there for the last few weeks or there's been a bit of a selloff. and when we look at where yields got to at 5.4% a few weeks ago, that seemed to be too low and overly optimistic on corporate earnings and growth. we've now backed up to 6%. i think that's m >> but we're also in a situation, bob, where yields overseas are much lower than they are here in the united states. international investors find themselves coming to the u.s. and buying our bonds because they get a much better yield, a much higher yield here. that's another reason why we're seeing this flattening of the curve, isn't it? >> that's true, i think you're right to be somewhat concerned about the yield curve flat

new developments in the russia probe led by special counsel bob mueller. michael flynn have formerly cut ties with mr. trump's personal legal team saying they could not longer discuss the elevation. reported by the "new york times" saying this could be a sign flynn is cooperating with the special counsel. legal experts tell nbc news it's not unusual for a defense team to share information. until hereto party is unwilling or unable to do so under the law. president trump's personal attorney refused to give specifics regarding the discussion between the two legal teams. said the change came as no prize. he added, quote, what was not entirely unexpected was that flynn may be discussing a plea with special counsel. no one should draw the conclusion this means anything about general flynn cooperating against the president. the white house special counsel had no comment on the matter because it involves private defense of the president from attorney also declined to comment. in a state, trooper has been shot and killed in texas. suspect is now in custody. police arreste

we were talking about michael flynn and how bob mueller has been entering a lot of associate of michael flynn and how he believered there could be a flip. the major question with regards to flynn is why is it you think flynn has not been charged? >> because a federal prosecutor wants to get all of your -- you want to get all of your evidence together. there's not an agreement amongst the jury and that's it. you don't get your guilty verdict. mr. mueller is interviewing from what these reports say many witnesses, he's getting everything lined up. he potentially is trying to get certain witnesses to cooperate with him agree to testify against flynn. it's a smart thing to do when you're a prosecutor to get your ducks in a row because once you charge then there's going to be motions that are going to be filed against trying to dismiss the indictment by flynn's attorneys. they could try to have a very speedy trial. you never know what's going to happen. you could be on a bloclock, so speak. you want to have your ducks in a row before you charge. >> all right. thank you so much. have a good t

and i think we're going to see more revelations from bob mueller soon about michael flynn that could o that. >> can you have all these investigations going on, you have bob mueller and the investigations going on on capitol hill, but on the face of it, isn't this an issue at this point, at least, about optics? the president is overseas in asia, the critical diplomatic trip, and then another night of new revelations, some of them are not so new, but new events being highlighted that relate to carter page in that trip to russia? >> yeah, certainly. to nancy's point, the white house has struggled with this and their default explanation that someone just played a limited role for a limited amount of time. those were the words they used that sean spicer famously used from the white house platform to talk about paul manafort. two points on carter page, first of all, it is not illegal. there's not necessarily anything improper with them reaching out to communicate with foreign leaders. number two, carter page, having just said, this excuse is getting old, carter page from these e-mails, it's

. >> michael is joining us now and michael, you worked with bob mueller previously. by listening to abbe lowell's explanation there, these committees are undermining the investigations by publicly saying enough information and all the right information been provided by jared kushner. how does it either assist or interfere with? >> in some sense it's not pertinent. mueller is going to make his own requests and those are thes that matter way more than congress. congress said this guy is under oath or the issue of contempt, none of which is going to happen. abbe's primary and real concern is mueller. he has to make sure he is protecting his client for future contact with mueller. as a consequence, he will give to the committees, these they ask for. if they ask for something, he will give it to them. he will not define the intention and hope they would get more from them than they ask for. our lawyer, i think that would be what i would do. i would say answer the questions that are asked and don't embellish and wait for the next question. that's what's going on. what up s

bob. >> caller: michael, i'm very impressed with your body of work. i have a series of questions. one thing you first brought up that drew my attention is the the come modification, and the robin hood tax, chase sales tax on zap trading and that's an interesting concept in terms of what would that -- that what put the change and balance on the zap stock traiting at the speed of light. >> guest: so, tax high frequency trading, people have suggested that. as much pleasure at it would give me because they irritated me no end, the high-frequency trading industry. their public presentation is -- you never know what the unintended consequences of the tax i worry about and there's better ways to attack the problem. it's at the level of incentive. every one of these wall street book its i've written, incentives are in there, and do not allow exchanges -- exchanges pay brokers to send them orders in a certain form. get rid of that do not allow exchanges to sell privilege access to information. they can say oh, yeah, everybody can buy it but not everybody can spend a million dollars a year

special counsel bob mueller investigating an alleged plan for fired national security adviser michaelalestinian to forcibly remove a turkish cleric living in pennsylvania. the journal reports flynn was offered a $15 million to deliver the cleric to the turkish government. one of the reporters who broke the story joins us now. thank you for being on the show. appreciate it. there was a meeting in september allegedly about this. now one in december. that would be after the election and after flynn was named as the national security adviser. is that right? >> right. what we understand, the fbi is investigating is an alleged meeting that took place in a report at the 21 club in new york city sometime mid-december in which mike flynn attended. they have asked at least four people about this. and from we understand there was discussions as much as $15 million, the possible involvement of mike flynn's son, who was an adviser at the time as well to mr. flynn who had been nominated and named as national security adviser. it is remarkable meeting that would happen as -- after this earlier septe
