and your recollections of this man on the day that we're remembering bob novak? ir sails. he didn't. he knew exactly what bob thought. he really didn't much care about what other people thought. and he was fierce ly -- and the other thing about bob, him more than maybe ever knew, he was a real sports fan. and, i mean, he wasn't, like, a guy that read about it in the paper. we need to find out how many acc tournament games he saw in his life. i want to say he went to over 30 consecutive tournament games. he was passionate about maryland basketball more than anybody i ever knew. every redskin name, the wizards, the nats, the "os," anything that played, he went there. he was a really knowledgeable sports fan, too. but his, you know, he had a real kind of passion for politics. and he was a good reporter. i think anything that people don't know about bob, don't realize, he's a very ideology g guy and a very interested reporter. he had the best sources in the republican party. his monday column in the "washington post," everybody in washington read that, but in particul

in his 2007 memoir, bob novak wrote about his love for journalism, "i had a terrific time fulfilling all my youthful dreams and at the same time making life miserable for hypocritical, posturing politicians and i hope performing a service for my country." his wife said he died at home in washington. robert novak gone today at 78. well, disturbing new developments today about a botched case or a series of them at a veterans' affairs medical center in philadelphia. we're told of that 98 veterans were given the wrong amount of radiation doses over a six-year period at that hospital. the errors made during surgical procedures for prostate cancer. some of the veterans received fooch radiation. others didn't get enough. with us dr. mark sigel, associate professor at the new york university school of medicine and also a fox news medical contributor. isn't this supposed to be easy to treat? you have to catch it early, once you catch it early it's supposed to be easy? >> no. radiation is called breaking therapy. you have to get it right there in the cancer. you have to know what you're doing.

brief moment to join pat, by the way, in saying just a sincere word about the loss of our good buddy bob novak today. pat and i worked with him for years at crossfire. he was a great journalist, a great commentator, and a great friend and a sad loss to this country. but david, i just walked out of that briefing. this situation is still really murky. for the white house to say this is what we prefer is not the same as saying this is what we want and this is what we're going to get. i think and pat's worked in the white house, i never have. i think the white house in this case caved in, it looks like they caved in a little too early. they've raised the white flag before the first shots are even fired. i can tell you this from my conversation with house democrats that if there's not a public plan option, health care reform will not pass the house of representatives. forget about the senate, it won't get out of the house. >> pat, is the white house betting here if they have back down from this, in fact, are they betting that democrats still won't walk away from this reform? >> i think in the final
