we've got reporter bob redell and christie smith live on the scene. check in with bob right now. what's the latest from where you are? >> good morning. we're inside the plaza again. there's the camp site in the background. and the camp site for the most part appears to be empty. we've seen a few people wanderring in there earlier. the majority of people at 14th and broadway. if you look to the right. there's a perimeter established. they're in the riot gear. law enforcement has a perimeter all around the plaza. unless you're immediate yarks you can't get in or out. they've been standing there for the past 15 minutes. there's the tents. sorry about that. officers on a loud speaker until about 30 minutes ago declaring an unlufl assembly, asking people to leave. so it doesn't seem like there's anybody in the camp. if there are, might be a few people inside the tent itself. here we are an hour after they blocked off the perimeter. police are making a move inside the plaza. then they eventually have one in and clean out the tents themselves. we don't know w

"today in the bay's" bob redell live now with what is going on and the reaction from the protesters. good morning, bob. >>> good morning to you, jon. protesters weren't surprised by this action by police overnight. mayor ed lee of san francisco has tolerated the protesters camping out at justin herman and in front of the federal reserve. he had grown tired of what had grown out in front over here in front of 1 market street, a mini camp in front of the two other sites. it went overboard. protesters said they moved there because they were running out of space. the mayor saying this is a violation of the understanding between both sides. around 1:30 this morning, officers surrounded the protesters in front of 1 market street, removed 15 tents and arrested seven people who refused to leave. those people were cited and released for camping. police officers tell us they received many complaints from people who say it was too hard to get by the tents, that the sidewalk was getting crowded out. police say they were left with no choice but to take it down by force. >> they were asked repeated

bob redell is live at cal state east bay, one of the campuses on strike. people were out there very early this morning. bob? >> good morning. you're correct. since 6:00 this morning. good morning to you, marla and jon. many of the faculty here at csu east bay is on strike, taking their protests to the main roads leading up to campus here in the hayward hills trying to slow traffic, sometimes bringing it to a full stop before letting it go. it's all an attempt to draw attention to their plight. the teachers union is angry with the university system over a broken promise. both sides did agree the faculty would receive pay raises during the two academic years that cover 2008 through 2010. those increases never materializes. csu blames is on state legislators who withheld hundreds of millions of dollars. without that money, cal straight administration says it can't afford to pay for those raises. even if they will did shell out the extra pay, the school claims it would take away from the students. the university says the money isn't there. sacramento withheld

bob redell joins us live at the scene of the accident with the very latest.morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning, laura. a huge sigh oo of relief on behalf of sfpd that this wasn't a much more serious accident. the three officers involved in the crash about five hours ago have nonlife threatening injuries. in other words, they're going to be okay. this happened a little bit before 2:00 this morning. three officers in an unmarked patrol car. they get to 19th street. the car somehow lost control and went across the opposite lanes of traffic to slam into a light pole. the impact swuz so severe the car was totalled. those officers did get out of the car okay. right now they're at sf general, just a couple of blocks away. they were responding to a call of a man with a knife, which was a few blocks away from here at 24th and york. clearly they never made it to that scene. when they did arrive at sf general the chief of the fire department and the police department both of them were there to greet these officers at their bedside to make sure they're okay. again, t

. >> that's where bob redell joins us live from. we understand at this point, this is the very same line that exploded about 13 months ago in san bruno. >> reporter: yes, line 132 that runs south from milpitas north along the peninsula. we're on northbound 280 at farm hills boulevard. pg&e is trying to figure out how to replace the section that ruptured yesterday. the hillside on one side and up there it's limited space that backs up to homes and private property. it's really an issue of access and how to get the equipment up there to make the repair. they're hoping to maybe do something this afternoon. this is line 132, the same one that erupted in san bruno last september, killing eight people. pg&e was safety testing this line with high water pressure when it burst yesterday afternoon, throwing rock and mud on to northbound 280, shutting it down for a short time. right now, speaking -- after speaking with pg&e this morning, the thought is that there was a dent or some sort of external scarring that caused it to fail yesterday, pe

bob redell is live at cal state east bay, one of the campuses on strike. , bob. >> reporter: good morning, laura. the walkout picket started within the last half hour. it will last throughout the day. talking to the faculty. they expect this will shut down campus today, meaning there will be no classes for students. at the heart of the unprecedented walkout are pay raises that were promised but never delivered. teachers and the universities did agree on raises for the two academic years covering 2008 to 2010, is csu has never paid. the reason, administrators say they've can't afford to because the state took away their money during the budget crisis. now a panel has recommended administrators cough up the pay raises, but again csu says the money isn't there. and if they were to pay, it could mean cuts to the number of classes offered to students. >> you can't have quality education when management breaks the contract. two independent neutrals have said they should pay the money they owe that we requested as a compromise for 2008-09 and 2009-10. they claim t

bob redell is joining us with the latest. good morning, bob. >> in a few hours pg&e will replace the three will have foot section of ruptured pipeline. it's up this hill near farm hill. that section shut it down for a short time. they've been conducting hydro status pressure tests. they purge the gas from the line to see how it olds. the utility says the point of rupture was dented. now just last thursday pg&e revealed a leak along the same line in palo alto. that section was installed in 1947 which critics say is a big part of the problem. now this line, line 132. a 24-inch transmission line that runs through san francisco is the same one that exploded in san bruno. pg&e did test lines often because it was so expensive. the goal is to test 150 miles of the transmission lines by year's en end. >> the whole point of the program is to identify weaknesses in the pipe. get in there. make repairs. make the system stronger. >> this testing will resume through november. then pg&e says they will pause testing because people need to he

today in the bay's bob redell is live in san jose this morning. it's been vocal in the fight, bo bob. >> the state would argue they will be in the hole. the bottom line doesn't seem like anyone will come out a winner in this. sacramento each year used to give cities like san jose millions of dollars for redevelopment. sacramento shut that down over the summer because of the fm crisis that they're in. today people will go before california's supreme court to ask for a reinstatement of the funds. in july they diverted $1.47 billion from property taxes back into schools and other programs, bigger priorities in the eyes of sacramento. the state is already facing a budget deficit of $5 million to $8 billion. having to return to $1.7 billion will add to that. the redevelopment agencyscan get a second life if they agree to give the state another $400 million down the road. hence the reason why they are suing today. just another reason. the redevelopment agencies argue by taking away their money, they violated proposition 22. california voters passed propo
