"today in the bay's" bob redell is live in san jose, and bob, the coroner just left the scene about an hour ago. did that divulge any clues? >> reporter: good morning to you, kris. from what we've been able to gather from our conversation with a police officer here out on the scene, this does not appear to have been a random crime. it's not clear, though, why this person was shot and killed, a woman along bascom. that's where she was found, in front of a pool supply store. her body left lying in the street. she was still alive when paramedics arrived. they tried to save her, but she died on the scene. police do have at least one or two witnesses who they are interviewing. it is our understanding that they were with the woman when she was shot. might have even known her. again, police are questioning those witnesses to try to identify the suspect who police believe is a man and to try to figure out what led up to her death. again, they are trying to find the suspect. no arrests as of yet. but a woman unfortunately shot and killed around 10:00 last night here in san jose on bascom near s

bob redell joining along highway 17 where conditions have been difficult this morning.t of a break right now. not seeing the heavy rain we saw earlier, sam. more of a drizzle. as i look north from the summit on highway 17 in santa cruz mountains, i can see the sun trying to push through some of the clouds. though i doubt that will be happening. it's probably just a little hint of things we'll see later after this storm passes, which again will be several hours from now. this rain starting overnight while most people were asleep. as i mentioned, was heavy at times. and as any chp officer would tell you, even though the rain has stopped, at least in this section of the bay area the roads are still wet. you do want to watch your speed. drive the safest speed possible. but sometimes it's not the speed limit. watch your distance between you and the driver in front of you. remember, it's been a while since this rain so not only are the roads wet but oily as well. reporting live here atop the summit here in the santa cruz mountains along highway 17 nbc bay area news. >>> thing
