. >> it's been seven long year, "today in the bay" bob redell joining us this san jose. what does this mean for the fire department and also taxpayers? >> reporter: approximate the city council approves the plan here tonight at san jose city hall it means that the men and women who protect your homes here in the south bay could see a 15% raise over the next four years with the first year being retroactive. on top of that firefighters would also receive a lump sum payment that amounts to an additional 3% in pay. now, the firefighters local union points out that not only is this their first raise in seven years, but they have been working with fewer people during that time. the deal also requires every unit to be manned with at least four five fighters and leaving future talks over their pensions which have been reduced in recent years. also today not far from san jose city hall. the santa clara board of supervisors, they're expected to approve a tougher ep forcement of illegal fireworks. this in time for the 4th of july weekend. currently police can openly charge the pers
