live here in hayward, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> thank you. mentioned, a large number of officers right now waiting outside of eden medical center in castro valley where we believe the injured officer might be getting treatment. >> "today in the bay's" stephanie chuang there with more. seeing a lot of law enforcement out there as well? >> reporter: i do. we are here outside eden medical center's emergency room where earlier i did see a large group of police officers, substantial number at least, maybe eight or so, with that officer -- possible officer-involved shooting be the victim may be a police officer. we haven't seen this kind of presence when it is not a law enforcement officer. i saw a couple of hayward police patrol cars as well as sheriff's patrol car, hayward fire battalion chief as well as fire engine and chp just rolled up. i asked officer if anyone was talking and he said he wasn't aware because he just arrived at the scene. i do want to mention that this is the closest hospital to the crime scene you just saw bob at in hayward.

. >> "today in the bay" bob redell joins us live from san leandro. the robbers are on the run, do they know if it's two or more suspects? >> reporter: at least with two, possibly four. just within the past 30 to 60 minutes san leandro police has cleared the home and neighborhood here on lake view drive, lifted that shelter in place. a lieutenant just informed us that the elderly man who lives in that home who was shot is expected to survive, even though he was badly hurt. it was around 12:45 this morning that those suspects, at least two of them in their early 20s, invaded that home here on lake view drive where this elderly couple lives. there was an exchange of gunfire between the husband who had his own gun and at least one of the suspects who had their own weapon. the husband was taken to the hospital, the wife was not hurt, she told police she believes her husband might have shot one of the suspects and at the time that she thought he height still be inside, hence the s.w.a.t. presence early on. as i mentioned police do believe the suspects got

"today in the bay's" bob redell live at san jose police headquarters to tell us more and where it all happened. good morning, bob. >> reporter: san jose police rounded up the last of the suspects about five hours ago after locking down and setting up a perimeter in this neighborhood in east san jose. not far from mount pleasant high school. it was around 7:30 last night, four men, at least one of them with a gun broke into a house on harvest drive, police calling this a home invasion robbery. they ransacked the house, assaulted a man who lives inside, possibly slashing him with a knife or some other sharp object. his condition is unknown. the four suspects then fled with the man's money but they didn't get far. officers arrested two of them right away jewett side the house, the other two hopped the fence, hid out am in different places throughout the neighborhood until officers found them around 1:00, 1:30 this morning. all four suspects are locked up, two in county jail, the other two in juvy hall as they are just 17 years old. reporting live, bob redell, "today in the bay." >>> happ

"today in the bay" bob redell is live in fremont. you talked with folks who felt the shaking, you said you did not, though, because you have feet made of concrete. >> reporter: i do. i did not feel it at home in livermore. i was wide awake, getting ready, but a lot of people ft it in fremont, especially in the niles district because this is where the epicenter was. one man told us it was a good jolt, another woman who said she lived through a lot of quakes in california said it was a baby quake. this was a magnitude 4.0, struck at 2:41 this morning. there have been several aftershocks since, the most significant a 2.7 and 2.6 at 2:56 and 3:07 this morning. this is how our sighs no graph recorded it. you have the straight line and violence there, it looks dramatic but if you talk to seismologists they will tell you that magnitude 4.0 was a light quake. a lot of people who live in the bay area recognize that. the reason why it's getting so much attention is because it was so widely felt. >> i just kind of felt all of the house shaking

nbc bay area's bob redell has been following the developments in the story. he has the latest from san jose. >> reporter: scott the police and fire unions are threatening to stay the city of san jose back to court if both sides can't reach an agreement by midnight tonight. within the past you are union negotiators came back to resume talks with the city manager over cuts to retirement benefits. this after 16 hours of talks yet that ran until 2:00. at issue is measure b, which you might wall voters approve back in to 12 to scale back -- well police and fire took the city to court. for the past several months s both sides have been trying to settle this issue. we spoke with both the unions and the city this morning. neither would be specific about what the hangup is in coming to an agreement that would satisfy the court. are you optimistic. >> i think it depends on who you ask and when. >> i think we're all hopeful that we have accomplished a lot. the discussions have been done constructively and positively with all the feedback i have had heard, but when you g
