bob redell joins us from the construction site and we learn what went wrong. bob? >> reporter: we did speak with the fire district just a few hours ago, and they told us this is the second time a worker has fallen at the facebook construction site behind me. they said it will now be up to cal osha to investigate. this most recent accident taking place just over 24 hours ago. it happened a little past 8:30 yesterday morning. as you can see in the pictures provided by the fire department, there is a steel worker who was atop the fourth floor, the roof, of facebook building 21 which was under construction. according to the fire department, he slipped on a piece of decking and fell towards the 20th floor. he was wearing a seat harness. it kept him from falling to the ground and saved his life. unfortunately, the safety harness did hurt him and he had to be taken to the hospital for his injuries. >> they're being worn and they're doing their job. just like seat belts, they do their job but you don't want it to happen in the first place. >> the fact they've had this happ

bob redell is joining us live outside the stadium where one road is already shut down there, bob, and it's going to be a busy day. >> reporter: it is, and santa clara police are warning people to be careful coming in and out of this area because there will be a lot of traffic. we're in front of levi stadium where the city of santa clara has already shut down tasmin drive in front of the stadium. it will remain this way when jamaica takes on the u.s. in the levi. you can see anyone else trying to get through here will be turned back around. santa clara police is also warning the traffic in and around levi stadium will get worse throughout the day as 55,000 soccer fans start to show up for the game. as you can see right over there, the free football fiesta going to be taking place outside the venue. the lieutenant tells us he expects traffic issues, listen to this, to extend in a 5-mile radius within this venue. tasmin is already shut down. the parking lot is open at 1:30. that's when you start to see a lot of fans showing up. that football fiesta runs from 1:45 to 5:45. the gates open

bob redell live with what we know is now a homicide this morning. bob? >> reporter: good morning to u you, laura. not far from the intersection here about two and a half blocks away from san jose state university. investigators have now been out here for 13 hours collecting evidence from what we believe is the 15th homicide of the year here in the city of san jose. as mentioned it started around 5:00 last night with a 911 call to police, someone reporting they heard loud bangs coming from inside a home nearby. when the officers arrived it turns out the loud bangs had been gunshots and they did find a woman shot at least once and, sadly, she was pronounced dead here on the scene. san jose police tell us they do not have any suspects. they've not made any arrests. as far as motive they don't know what led up to the shooting. was this a random crime or was the woman targeted? reporting live here in san jose, bob redell. >>> thank you very much for that update, bob. new details this morning. san jose police looking for a man who led them on a car chase after

bob redell has been at the scene all morning for us. firefighters have put out the flames but it seems they're still putting their guard up now. >> absolutely. good morning, sam and kris. we did speak with the fire department and between them examine calfiand calfire, they plan to have about 70 men and women here and also nearby at alum rock. this is one home that was lost in yesterday's fire, and within the past hour, the family who lives here removed papers from their site and they're still on-site sifting through the debris with shovels to see if anything else can be salvaged. this fire started about 4:30 yesterday afternoon and quickly traveled up the hills here in east san jose. it burned 150 acres. the fire is out but firefighters only have a fire alarm out about 50% of the burn area. there are still things in it smoldering so today they wanted to extend that containment line to 100%. given all the smoke here, they only lost one house. the man across the street was stunned the fire didn't spread to his home, too, given he was only

. >> bob redell joining us. where do things stand? >> reporter: good morning to you sam and laura.spoke with calfire on the phone earlier this morning. they believe that those evacuations have been lifted after authorities asked people who live beyond this roadblock here on san philippe road to leave their homes in the east foothills of san jose. look at this video. this is video we got into the newsroom a few hours ago. the fire is still burning overnight. calfire tells us this is a 40-acre fire and it's at about 40% to 50% containment. yesterday afternoon firefighters were concerned and worried it would grow to 500 acres because of the rugged terrain and that there is a lot of fuel to burn. this winter's rain storms produced a lot of grass, the recent heat dried it out, leaving the hillsides extremely flammable. that's why you saw calfire's large response yesterday. more than 150 firefighters on the ground, plus four airplanes, two helicopters dropping water and flame retardant from the air. as for the cause, calfire is investigating a convertible car that was abandoned and burne

bob redell joins us live talking to crews out there.e some new information for us this morning. >>> good morning to you, sam. yes, i did speak with the fire department and here are the latest numbers. the fire burning in the foothills of western saratoga have burned ten acres and is 40% contained. in other words they have fire lines around 40% of the burn area. right now the flames have is laid down but that could change once the sun comes up and things start to heat up again. if i asked if they were calling more aerial attacks the fire department told me absolutely 10 100%, most likely a helicopter at the very least once they get daylight. the fire started around 3:20 on mt. eden road here in the bay and it burned close to the mountain winery, a popular concert venue here in the saratoga area. no structures were threatened. no one has been hurt. at one point yesterday afternoon firefighters had to suspend their air attack because of an unauthorized drone flying over the fire. >> it probably didn't affect this fire that much. however, i

bob redell joining us live from sonoma and information we're just learning this morning. bob? >> reporter: good morning to you, sam. on board that plane was the pilot, his two young children and an adult woman. when they took off from sonoma skypark early yesterday afternoon their plane sadly was almost immediately in distress. one witness we spoke with said that the small single engine sr-22 ascended to around 75 feet, the engine sputtered and cut out twice before then the plane crashed in a field about 1,000 feet from this airport. now, you can see in the video, the pilot did deploy an emergency parachute attached to the plane to slow the descent. a number of people who witnessed the crash ran to the site and tried to help the family. >> when i got there, there was a little hand out of the back window so i thought, oh my gosh, somebody's alive in there. let's see what we can do. >> reporter: the good samaritans pried the boy and girl out of the plane. both air lifted and treated at oakland hospital. the woman was badly hurt. the father, however, did not survive the crash. th

. >> sbob redell with what's goin on right now. bob, have crews made some progress? >> reporter: it looks like they definitely have. good morning to you, sam and laura. the building in question right beyond the fire trucks here is an abandoned office building, used to hold a dentist office and some other offices and businesses in had there. this is situated in a residential area. a lot of homes around here. you have this two-story building that attaches to a single story that caught fire around 2:20 this morning. the two ladders that were dumping water on the building shut off. that's a sign of progress. they definitely had the fire contained. unfortunately, they did have to go on the defensive pretty much after they arrived this morning about 15 minutes after they arrived because the fire was so intense and about 45 minutes after they arrived they had to go and be on the defensive, just keeping the fire contained which they were able to do. i did speak with a couple of people who live in the area who said they did hear fireworks last night. but according to the fire

bob redell is live at the scene this morning as he has been all morning for us. any word on the cause of this fire just yet? >> reporter: not as of yet. >> i just spoke with the fire marshal with the contra costa fire district which services lafayette. still do not know what caused this fire to burn and destroy what you're looking at is the remains of 100 lafayette circle. it's the building that's sort of a center piece of the downtown lafayette area, not only did it how's the livermore -- the lafayette chamber of commerce but also the la fa northwest tra restaurant, a hair salon, i cpa and other businesses. so sadly you can see this building is gone. within the past few moments the fire department stopped dumping water on the area because they've been going that all morning long to keep northwest hot spots from flaring back up. and the video this is what it looked like several hours ago. had is what greeted firefighters as they arrived around midnight last night to put out this fire. the building was fully engulfed. the fire marshal tells us they had to go on th
