now it may soon change in berkeley and that is where bob redell joins us live with some details of what the city is planning to do about it. bob? >> reporter: laura, tonight at berkeley city council they're considering a proposal to open up its parking lots to people living in rvs including this lot at the berkeley animal shelt the plan the city would allow up to 25 rvs to camp overnight during nonbusiness hours in the safe parking locations for up to three months during what is called a grace period. berkeley is dealing with this problem as we're all aware. a 2019 census data showed that over 9,000 people are living out of vehicles an we're talking about cars rvs in the nine county bay areas and many parked illegally overnight in side streets or in front of businesses and overnight [ inaudible ] within city limits but they can't enforce the rule as berkeley is reporting they have approved the idea of a -- [ inaudible ] as a compromise but not yet found a 2ur losing >> there you go. >> we're losing your there. but we'll continue to watch what is happening with the berkeley city council
