nbc bay area's bob redell is joining us from outside the refinery and that's where he has been monitoringvirtually. what have you learned? >> good morning, marcus. apparently the workers at the martinez refinery company behind me did not realize their facility was releasing coke dust into the air until a day later, not until after people in the community called to complain. this is based on interviewses with employees and documents obtained by the refinery by an independent investigator hired by contra costa health who you can see are releasing his findings in the health department's oversight community via zoom meeting. it happened during a failure called catalytic cracking and this is a process that they use to crack or breakdown larger hydrocarbon molecules into smaller molecules. the release happened on november 24, 2022, but the problems started on november 21st, a few days before when an air controller failed and the cracker shut down according to the investigator. the investigator found there were eight root causes to the release including worker fatigue. he found that for whatever
