bob schieffer has more. >> whatever else you can say about super tuesday, what it seems to underline is that this is a republican party that has not yet settled on who it wants to be its nominee. in fact, you could also argue that it is a party that really is just not very excited about any of the people who are in the race right now. for example, in virginia where mitt romney won, the only other person on the ballot was ron paul and ron paul got 40-something percent of the vote in virginia. that means, there are some 40 some odd percent of the people in virginia that are not happy about the idea of mitt romney being their candidate. in georgia and in tennessee where newt gingrich and where rick santorum won, 40% in both of those states said that mitt romney was simply not conservative enough for them. romney did win his home state, which is kind of a gimme. he won vermont, which is the neighboring state. this was a night when everybody got some wins. newt gingrich will go on now. he says he'll try to use his win in georgia to give him momentum into alabama and mississippi, which wil

bob schieffer, the anchor of "face the nation" the joining us, along with john dickerson, our political director in ohio. bob, what do you see in this super tuesday so far? >> i think if we were at the horse races we'd be feeling pretty good right now because we'd have a good chance to win the big six. everything is coming out the way the polls suggested they were going to come out. newt gingrich won georgia, he knew that was the only place he had any chance and he will continue and go on to fight for another day after winning down there. it looks like rick santorum, he's already won tennessee. he's leading in oklahoma so that will be a couple for him. romney has won what really amounts to kind of three gimmies-- virginia where only ron paul was on the ballot with him, vermont and massachusetts which, of course, is his home state. it would have been remarkable if he hadn't have won those states. it's coming down, though, now, on what happens in ohio and as far as we know it's still very, very close there between santorum and romney. >> pelley: it's going to be a split decision tonight.
