hispanic support. >> bob, we need to do the right thing, right thing for america, and i think appeal to all people, particularly hispanics and african americans and minorities. >> schieffer: but why are you so much against this amendment? >> i'm opposed to the bill because it doesn't do what it says, bob. this bill grants amnesty first, and a mere promise of enforcement in the future, even with the corker-hosten amendment, all of which has been put in a 1200-page vote we'll have monday afternoon that nobody has read. these promises of 20,000 agents won't take place, or are not required until 2021. no money is being appropriated for that. this is merely an authorization. we passed a law to have 700 miles of double-wide fencing, double-layered fencing. this bill is weaker than that, and it has a specific provision that says the secretary napolitano does not have to build any fence if she choose not and she's publicly said she has enough fencing. the reason this bill is in trouble, the reason the amendment was thrown in here at the last minute was because the promises weren't fulfilled, and this legislation, this amendment doesn't fulfill its promises, either, frankly. we'r

so it was quite a surprise last night when the house voted it down, which made us want to ask bob schieffer, our chief washington correspondent and anchor of "face the nation," what's going on? bob? >> reporter: well, i'll tell you, scott, republican house speaker john boehner thought that he had the votes to pass the farm bill, but a group of younger republicans turned on him. they thought it was too expensive, at the last minute and the bill both democrats and republicans wanted was defeated. it's the same thing that's happened on other deals. boehner thought he had the votes to pass, but didn't. what's going on here is there are a group of newer and very conservative republicans who see no need to fall in line with their leaders and no penalty for defying them. they're literally out of control, at least out of the speaker's control. it's not the way washington used to operate. and what is worrying people on all sides here is that if this doesn't change, it may be difficult, if not impossible to pass anything. >> pelley: bob, we'll be watching you on sunday. thank you very much. on "face

bob schieffer's very special guest will be the white house chief of staff, dennis our investigative correspondent sharyl attkisson has worked on a number of sensitive stories for us, including the terror attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi, libya. well, today, we learned that her computer has been hacked. cbs news put out a statement saying that a cyber security firm hired by cbs had determined through forensic analysis that attkisson's computer was accessed by an unauthorized, external, unknown party on multiple occasions late in 2012. evidence suggests this party performed all access remotely, using attkisson's account. cbs news it working on finding out the identity of the hacker. we know more tonight about the gunman who went on that shooting rampage in santa monica, california, last week. he killed his father and brother at home and then three strangers at a community college. police were unable to trace his weapon, and carter evans found out why. >> reporter: the assault rifle 23-year-old john zawahri used in his santa monica shooting spree is illegal in california, but jacqueline seab
