i remember watching a program with george mcgovern and bob schieffer. they ran senator mcgovern talking about his friendship with president ford and he said in the end, he had voted for ford. and he said he discussed it with his family afterward and found they had all done that as well. i am aot sure because strong democrat. i wonder if that came into the information about senator mcgovern ever. host: scott ferris? mr. farris: he did have great affection for gerald ford. i don't know if you voted for him. he had problems with president carter. there were a couple reasons. president carter had not been very supportive of him in 1972. even though president carter basically borrowed the mcgovern strategy to get his nomination in 1976. he was also a little hurt that the magnitude of senator mcgovern's loss was be was a bit of a pariah in democratic circles. he was not giving -- given a starring role at the next convention. i am sure there were some hurt feelings. he worked with a number of republicans. he and bob dole partnered for almost an entire lifetime
