joining me now is democratic strategist bob shrum, professor at new york university.eat to have you with us tonight. >> glad to be here. >> is this a voting bloc that the democrats should be paying attention to? because these are unusual circumstances, we haven't had numbers like this for decades. what do you think? >> well, first i think it's great that you paid attention to them. they walked up to you in an event and talked to you because too much of the media focus has been on the tea party and its phony grievances. these are real human beings suffering real hurt and their families are in real trouble. obviously democrats ought to fight on this. there's a natural terrain here. the republican party, they can say with total truth, wants to give tax cuts to people who make more than $1 million a year. but they don't want to do anything for the hard-core unemployed. now you can't make that argument unless you bring the bill up and unless you fight for the bill and if the bill falls short you've at least made the effort. it's really something democrats ought to do right
